SKU: A0.834332

Composed by Steven Shade. Concert,Instructional,Romantic Period,Standards. Score and part. 18 pages. Steve Shade #3240755. Published by Steve Shade (A0.834332).

Rondo in C minor for Flute and Piano begins with an energetic and aggressive statement of the main theme. The energy of the first section is brought to even higher levels in second section as the piano accompaniment drives the excitement forward with an unsettling tremolo and throbbing syncopation. The second section crashes to an ending, leading to a chromatic re-transition back to the main theme. After this reinstatement, the flute and piano trade-off the melody in a lyrical passage. The first and section sections are repeated before a variation on the main section is introduced. This variation builds into a swift and unbridled coda that drives the piece to a close.

The flutist needs nimble fingers to execute the quick passages, and a delicate touch for the lyrical passages. The pianist, while equally as important as the flutist in this Rondo, will share in the limelight by being demanded to play advanced passage work.

This piece is re-written for flute from my original composition, Rondo in C minor for Violin and Piano.

Contents: Complete score for the pianist and the flute player
Difficulty: Advanced

Op. 6/5. Composed by Charles Marie Widor. Edited by Edmund Wachter and Elisabeth Weinzierl. This edition: Sheet music. (c) 2020 Schott Music GmbH & Co. KG, Mainz. Classical. Downloadable. Volume op. 6/5. 7 pages. Schott Music - Digital #Q53385. Published by Schott Music - Digital (S9.Q53385).

English • German.

Having grown up in a family of organ-builders and organists, the path of Charles-Marie Widor as an organist was predestined. In 1870 he moved from Lyon, the town of his birth, to Paris and became titular organist at Saint-Sulpice. In 1890 Widor succeeded César Franck as professor of organ studies at the Paris Conservatoire, where six years later he was appointed professor of composition, too. Alongside orchestral works, solo concertos, vocal pieces and chamber music, Widor’s most important musical achievement was his contribution to the genre of the organ symphony. His Suite op. 34 for flute and piano, structured around a Romance (1881) and composed for Paul Taffanel, may be considered as marking the beginning of the modern French flute school: here for the first time a composition makes full use of the bright tone of the Böhm flute, as introduced to the music world by Taffanel and his pupils. This Sérénade op. 65 is the arrangement of a duo for harmonium and organ. No further information about the arranger has been found. Plate no. 27148 / published in 1903.

Ave Maria

Ave Maria is a Catholic prayer that consequently asks for the mother of Jesus (Mary) to intercede. Charles Gounod composed a famous version of the Ave Maria. He was a French Romantic composer who overlaid a new melody on an existing Bach chord progression. The progression is from Bach’s Prelude No. 1 from Well-Tempered Clavier I. This version, as well as Schubert’s version, have become essential items at weddings, masses, and funerals.

Bach Overview

First of all, Johann Sebastian Bach is maybe the greatest composer in music history. Certainly, he was prolific. As a result, everyone has heard of his works. Furthermore, these works number well over a thousand. It seems like people are probably most familiar with instrumental works such as the Brandenburg Concertos, and the Goldberg Variations. But, similarly famous are such noteworthy works as the Well-Tempered Clavier, the Musical Offering, and the Art of Fugue. Seems like his most famous vocal works include the most noteworthy Mass in B Minor. Also, most noteworthy, though, are the St. John Passion, and certainly the Christmas Oratorio.

 History

Bach came from a long line of musicians and above all, composers. Consequently, he, first of all, pursued a career as a church organist. So as a result, he gained employment in various Protestant churches in Germany. For a while, he worked as a court musician in Weimar and Köthen. Here he probably developed his organ style and likewise his chamber music style. Eventually, he, therefore, gained an appointment as Cantor of St. Thomas in Leipzig. Here he worked until difficulties with his employer ultimately drove him away. The King of Poland finally appointed him as a court composer.

 Style

It seems like Bach created an engaging new international style. He synthesized elements of the most noteworthy European music ideas into his new style. Even more, this new style was probably his synthesis of European musical rhythm and form. Furthermore, he demonstrated a complete mastery of counterpoint and motivic development. His sense of harmonic organization probably propelled him to the top.

Revival

Mendelssohn conducted a Bach revival in the nineteenth century. His effort probably helped to re-familiarize the public with the magnitude of Bach’s works. During this period, scholars published many noteworthy Bach biographies. Moreover, Wolfgang Schmieder published the BWV (Bach Werke Verzeichnis). As a result, this is now the official catalog of his entire artistic output. The BWV number allows us to locate a work in the catalog. Sometimes scholars will simply use an S (Schmieder) as an abbreviation for BWV.

 Voyager

NASA launched two Voyager spacecraft in 1977. Onboard are phonograph records with sounds, music, and images of life on Earth. The purpose of the launch was to inform intelligent extraterrestrial life forms about conditions on Earth. The music on the disc is varied. There is Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky among others. However, because Bach is so important in our music history, it contains three times more Bach than all the others combined.

Sonata in E Minor. Duration: 7:15
1. Adagio

3. Menuett & 2 Variations

Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (1714-1788) was an influential composer who worked during a time of transition between the Baroque and Classical styles of music. His personal approach, known as empfindsamer Stil or sensitive style, applied the principles of rhetoric and drama to musical structures. The duets composed by C.P.E. Bach are significant because they showcase his unique style and are considered to be some of his most important works. They are known for their unpredictability and expressive qualities, which were a departure from the style of his father, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Composed by Chris Lawry, Keri Degg. Christmas,Jazz. Score and part. 7 pages. Masquerade Music #6063277. Published by Masquerade Music (A0.761518).

Ukrainian Folk Carol (often known by another name however) for Flute (in C) and piano (or use the enhanced free demo/backing tracks via request after ordering - details are given on your printed sheet music) by UK composers Chris Lawry and Keri Degg.

New for September 2020 this is a very fresh take on this traditional classic and has been launched into a crazy swing/groove style! It's a great showstopper and a real joy to play. The piece includes playful interplay and new original material/solo/s.

Ukrainian Folk Carol is just one of five pieces from 'Christmas Jazz - Volume 2' Flute edition (also available in Bb sax, Eb sax and Bb clarinet editions) which also includes; Deck the halls (Piazzolla-inspired style), The Holly and the Ivy - a smooshy smooth jazz ballad with original solo/s, Away in a manger - again, a gentle smooth jazz style, and O Holy Night (which has cheeky interplay, yet sweeping original lines too). All the pieces are aimed at early intermediate-confident intermediate level (typical UK exam grades from grade 4-6) so are achievable by most players (and don't take weeks and weeks of preparation; very important at the busy festive time!).

There is also a 'Christmas Jazz - Volume 1' collection by the same composers (which includes; God rest ye merry gentlemen, Silent night, The first nowell, Hark the herald, and I saw three ships - all of which are available on SMP, or search for Christmas Jazz volume 1 if you'd like to buy the collection at a bargain price).
