Cornucopia is the recent single release by The Candlelight Guitarist...featuring an ensemble of guitar, mandolin, string bass, and percussion, in a contemporary bossa-nova style. The instrumental parts for guitar, MANDOLIN (this part), and string bass are each available here separately. Violin or flute or other treble clef C-instruments could substitute for the Mandolin, using the mandolin part. (Renown percussionist Ms. Bobbye Hall recorded using a bass part for her reference.) Brad plays both the classical guitar part and mandolin part. The initial inspiration was a choreographic flourish of hands playing upward arpeggios on the piano – each answered by flute. There is a darker middle section, where the piano provides counterpoint to a modal flute melody. My wife came up with the piece’s title – as we were living in New Jersey at the time and witnessed amazing reds, yellows and oranges of the autumn foliage. The twisting and turning of leaves floating to the ground reminded her of the changing colors and textures of this piece.
