This setting is for one of several evangelical hymns that came to the U.S. from England that were matched with a melody from the United States and took on the feel of a folk hymn. The poetic expressions of the hymn writer, Joseph Swain, can be heard in this arrangement as sung by international operatic baritone Robert McFarland and tenor Michael Sylvester on their recording of Stormy Winds.  There is also a setting for Solo Organ on a separate post.
