This setting is for one of several evangelical hymns that came to the U.S. from England that were matched with a melody from the United States and took on the feel of a folk hymn. The poetic expressions of the hymn writer, Joseph Swain, can be heard in this arrangement as sung by international operatic baritone Robert McFarland and tenor Michael Sylvester on their recording of Stormy Winds.  There is also a setting for Solo Organ on a separate post. In this version of Slow Sunday, the instrumental verse is modulated to represent the mystery of child rearing and family growth over time.  In the future, I might consider setting lyrics to this verse as well, with the spirits of the children communicating with their parents as they come into the world.  I can also imagine counter tenor yodeling to make the waltz more international and culturally diverse.

Quem Pastores Laudevere is a beautiful Christmas Carol here with a descant and imaginative new Piano part.

Originally from Glasgow, Timothy studied at the Royal College of Music, London and the Banff Centre, Canada. He was the Pianist for the Isis Piano Trio and Ballet Creations and is now in demand as an accompanist and chamber musician having performed with artists such as Dame Sarah Connolly and Tasmin Little. He has toured widely internationally and has recorded for BBC Radio 3 and Classic FM as well as TV appearances in Russia and Egypt. Murray’s compositions have been recorded by The Fibbonnaci Sequence and Piers Lane among others with reviews such as ‘Corruscating’ (Independent) and ‘Highly imaginative’ (The Sunday Times).
