His life was a constant struggle with adversity, and Joplin died relatively young in 1917, at the dawn of the recording age. Nowadays Scott Joplin has taken his rightful place in the gallery of great American composers.

Joyful Joyful, We Adore Thee (Ode To Joy), the familiar theme from Beethoven's ninth symphony, is arranged for clarinet duet. Each instrument leads and each instrument has freely composed music when accompanying, the musical result is an interesting and innovative musical arrangement for intermediate/advanced intermediate clarinet players. The extended cadence in the final few measures allows the 1st clarinet to state the opening five note motif high in the 3rd octave.
