Although it was a big sheet music seller at the time, it was Perry Como’s 1951 recording that turned it into a major hit. The simple harmony and melody have made this a perennial favourite with everyone from Sinatra to the Jacksons, Maria Carey and Bruce Springsteen. This version borrows from the swinging jazz style of various Sinatra recordings and is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Bass Clarinet.Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal Christmas performances. There are syncopated swing rhythms and some less familiar accidentals. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. Published by JB Linear (A0.581751). Gioachino Rossini is known for his delightful Italian operas, especially the overtures, like William Tell or The Barber of Seville. Early in his life he composed a set of 6 Sonatas for String Quartet. Later, Frederik Berr, a clarinetist known by Rossini, arranged the quartets for winds (c. 1820). This setting for clarinet duet by John Gibson uses Berr's arrangement but with a considerable amount of editing needed for the only edition currently available. The music overall is not difficult, however there are sections for each instrument that require a fair amount of technique. A score is provided, however it is better to play from the individual parts due to page turn issues.
