L’Amour, (Love in French),is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Bass Clarinet. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.

This duet is inspired by the French Chanson style associated with café life in Paris and beyond. This music has its roots in La Belle Epoque and was popularized by singers such as Édith Piaf, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. Long associated with romance, L’Amour is just what’s needed when love is in the air.

L’Amour is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. The melody should always flow; following the articulation in the score and adding plenty of expression will help convey the style. L’Amour has a performance time of around three minutes.

Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Romantic Period,Sacred,Wedding. 2 scores. 7 pages. Phil Beaman #6103531. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.845044).

L'Hymne du Pape was written in 1864 by the great Hungarian composer Franz Liszt. It was written in honor of Pope Pius IX who was the Pope at that time. Liszt himself was then living in a monastery outside of Rome and had recently take Orders. For about 10 years he was in the religious phase of his life where he wrote sacred music. This piece was written for piano solo, but Liszt liked it so much that he did a version for pipe organ and soon thereafter a version for piano duet and then for chorus and orchestra.

Composed by Josquin des Prez. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Contest,Festival,Instructional,Renaissance,Traditional,Wedding. 2 scores. 50 pages. Jmsgu3 #678286. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.1074017).

Josquin des Prez (c.1450-1521) was a composer of the Renaissance period, widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. His compositions set the standard for polyphonic music and are considered a high point in the history of music. He wrote a wide range of works, including masses, motets, and chansons, and was the first composer to set popular secular tunes as mass movements. His influence can be seen in the works of many later composers, including Johann Sebastian Bach, Antonio Vivaldi, and George Frideric Handel.

Josquin des Prez was a prolific composer of chamber music and duets during the Renaissance period. He wrote several types of chamber music and duets, including madrigals, chansons, and motets. His compositions are characterized by their intricate counterpoint, as well as their harmonic richness and emotional expressiveness. His works often featured two voices in harmony, and he was known to use imitation and complex canonic techniques to create interesting musical textures. Josquin's chamber music and duets are renowned for their complexity and beauty, and they remain some of the most influential and admired works from the Renaissance period.

Josquin Desprez is widely regarded as one of the most influential composers of the Renaissance period. His innovative use of counterpoint and canon helped to revolutionize the musical landscape of the time. Counterpoint is a technique of combining two or more independent melodies in a way that creates harmony and a cohesive musical texture. Josquin was a master of this technique, often combining multiple voices in complex contrapuntal textures. His use of canon, or round, was also highly influential. Canon involves two or more voices repeating the same melody in different registers and often with different rhythms. Josquin wrote canons in various styles and forms, including the popular “circular canon†and the more complex “strict canon.†He was also an early adopter of the “inverted canon†form, in which the same melody is repeated but in an inverted form. Josquin’s use of counterpoint and canon had a lasting impact on the development of Western music and helped to establish the foundation for many of the musical forms and techniques still used today.

Composed by Leo Delibes. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Holiday,Romantic Period,Standards,Wedding. 2 scores. 7 pages. Jmsgu3 #6342561. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.552406).

Duo of the Flowers from Lakme, Act I.  A popular wedding selection.

Leo Delibes (1836-1891) was a French composer of the Romantic period best known for his ballets and operas. He was a child prodigy and began composing music at the age of seven. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, where he developed a mastery of the symphonic form and wrote several pieces for the orchestra. His works for the stage are among the most popular and beloved of the Romantic era, including the ballets Coppélia and Sylvia, and the opera Lakmé.

Delibes was a pioneer in the use of orchestral color and instrumental effects to enhance the dramatic narrative of his works. His works are often praised for their lyricism, graceful melodies, and colorful orchestrations. His music is considered to be a bridge between the grandiose and romantic works of the French composers before him, such as Gounod and Berlioz, and the more intimate and melodic style of composers like Debussy and Ravel.

Delibes’ influence can be heard in the works of later composers such as Stravinsky and Prokofiev, and his music continues to be performed and enjoyed today. His contributions to music history are significant, and his works remain beloved masterpieces of the Romantic era.

Léo Delibes' opera Lakmé is an opera in three acts. It was first performed in 1883 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. The libretto was written by Edmond Gondinet and Philippe Gille. The story is set in British-occupied India and tells the story of a young Indian girl, Lakmé, who is in love with a British officer, Gerald. The story follows the couple's romantic journey, as well as the obstacles they face from Lakmé's father and the British military. The opera is best known for its beautiful score, which includes the famous aria The Flower Duet as well as the duet Lakmé! The Bell Song. The opera has been performed in opera houses all over the world and is considered one of Delibes' most popular works.

The Duo des Fleurs, composed by French composer Léo Delibes, is a ballet pas de deux from the ballet Lakme, Act I. It is a beloved masterpiece of the Romantic period and is often performed as a standalone piece in many ballet performances. The piece is typically danced by two female ballet dancers and is known for its playful and lighthearted nature. The music consists of a melody that alternates between the two dancers and is often accompanied by a lighthearted waltz. The music has a strong sense of unity and connection between the two dancers, which is enhanced by the use of the same melody. The piece also features a beautiful soaring coda that gives it a sense of grandeur and beauty. The Duo des Fleurs is an exquisite piece of music and an enduring classic of the ballet repertoire.
