This tree lines the streets of Buenos Aires which is considered by many to be the birthplace of the Argentinian Tango.This original Tango has two main sections- a passionate and animated section to begin with which clearly states the rhythms associated with the Tango, followed by a contrasting more wistful romantic middle section, which has the Cuban Habanera elements present, from which a Tango is derived. Then the piece returns to the first section taking it to a conclusionJacaranda is in the key of concert C minor with the middle section in C major. The range is around two octaves and I have tried to keep both parts interesting and equal with shared moments of melodic and rhythmic interest. It also has wide dynamic contrasts and heavy accents, along with legato and staccato phrasing, all of which are effectively used in this genre.It is set to Intermediate level- it is 4 mins 40 in length and would make a lovely addition to any programme.The youtube link has the full score so you can assess suitability. Written In Concert E minor, I wanted the gentle tempo in the outer sections to have a medieval minor tone, to work with the contrasting major section in the middle. I very much wanted it to be a clarinet duet rather than clarinet 1 and clarinet 2, so the parts are pretty equally divided. It is romantic in nature, but uses modes and has a few interesting harmonies. It is placed at early intermediate level, about associated board grade 4/5 - dotted quaver semiquaver is the most complicated rhythm). On the youtube link there is the full score for you to assess suitability. It would be very suitable for concerts, contests, recitals, weddings as well as an incidental piece. Blue Rondo A La Turk was on that album and uses a rhythm Brubeck heard on the streets of Turkey: 9/8 time, but divided into 1-2, 1-2, 1-2, 1-2-3. I have given this an advanced rating due to the challenge of playing these rhythms tightly at a fast tempo. The score is provided for reference only since the page turns are impossible. The parts are arranged for 3 side by side pages.  Also, since this version takes after one done vocally by Al Jarreau there is a section where the 1st and 2nd clarinets are invited to sing!

It falls into two strongly contrasted sections, each with its own character. The opening Andante should be played as smoothly as possible, and requires careful control of dynamics and intonation, as well as a perfect blend of tone; the Allegro is full of exuberant energy, and needs clear articulation and rhythmic precision. The 1st and 2nd clarinet parts are quite equal with the material divided evenly between them, so that the piece is suitable for two players of similar standard, and should appeal to a wide range of clarinettists.
