The clarinet duo J.P Morgan Finances the Panic of 1907 was originally composed in December, 1967, when the composer was 19 years old, and was inspired by Walter Lord's description of the Panic of 1907 in his book The Good Years (1960). The duo was revised in June, 1969.***The two performers may stand next to each other and read from the same music stand, but the musical effects will be enhanced if the performers stand apart, to create a stereophonic effect. This is especially effective in passages where the texture changes from heterophony to unison and back (e.g., mm. 10-12). The distance they stand apart will vary with the width of the performance area (stage) and the size of the auditorium.

This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz style for one Clarinet and one Bass Clarinet. When James Lord Pierpont wrote Jingle Bells in 1857, he had no intention of writing a Christmas song. The Christmas association had been made though by the dawn of the recording age, and the song has been popular across the world ever since. Jingle Bells holds the distinction of being the first song performed in space, sung by American astronauts in 1965. With a performance time of around three and a half minutes, this version of Jingle Bells is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar tune. Jingle Bells is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody first appears in standard jazz swing, but most of the arrangement is in 5/4. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level. He titled it Moderato in Bm when it was first published as Op 67 No 5 in a volume of his Songs Without Words. It was often referred to as Heide Lied , a type of pastoral German folk song. Another title derived from that is Song of the Heather. Many current editions give it the title The Shepherd's Complaint.  This instrumental duet arrangement takes a Romantic piece and sets it in 2 part writing. Even without the chords it is still very rich in sound and Romantic in feel. The metre is always in 3 even when the phrasing looks to be in 2; except for a section near the end where I have strayed from the original Mendlessohn and clearly marked Part II with tenutos to be in 2 against Part I in 3. I have also changed phrasing and articulation for more contrast between the two parts. This arrangement is faithful to the spirit of Mendlessohn yet freshens this beautiful old melody. The notes and rhythms are quite easy to play but I have marked it Early Intermediate because so much could be done with phrasing, articulation, and expression that would make this sound like a much more advanced piece. A great Romantic repertoire piece for students. (2 page score, 1 page Parts)

Four Sketches for Bb clarinet and bass clarinet is written in a contrapunctal, extended-tonal style and is in four movements The first movement, Invention, uses canonic writing and imitative couterpoint. Valse Lente, is a slowly expressive waltz with the two instruments presenting the melody in the different sections. Berceuse begins as a soft cradlesong, but gradually the music becomes more expansive before returning to the first theme to end the movement quietly. The final Marche is a jaunty, stylized comic march in which the theme is passed between the two instruments. Passages involving hocketing underlined byarticulation effects create rythmnic tension before the piece comes to a close.  Four Sketches pour clarinet et clarinette basse est est composé dans un style contrepunctal avec une vocabulaire harmonique tonale. Elle est en quatre mouvements La première mouvement, Invention, utilise une écriture canonique e imitative. Valse Lente, est une mélopée expressive avec le chant qui passe entre les deux parties. Berceuse commence dans une manière typique du genre, mais peu à peu, les éléments plus expansives sont présentées. La pièce finit par un retour du thème berçant du début, pour finir calmement.
