The First 5 series is suitable for elementary level performers of all ages. It provides seven pieces which are musically satisfying and fun to play without demanding more than basic technical ability and theoretical knowledge and the first five notes learned on the instrument. Pitches used: C D E F G (written range). Rhythmic values used: semibreve (whole-note), dotted minim (dotted half-note), minim (half-note), crotchet (quarter note), quavers (eighth-notes). Quavers (eighth-notes) appear only in groups of 2 or 4. Articulations/signs used: staccato, accent, slur, tie, repeat, 1st and 2nd time endings. Each piece may be performed as a Solo (use Part 1), Duet or 2-part Ensemble. All pieces in the First 5 series are in the same concert key, enabling performances with various combinations of these instruments: Flute, Clarinet, Alto Sax, Tenor Sax, Trumpet, Trombone, Euphonium. Les Pêcheurs de Perles has now been beautifully arranged for
two trumpets. This arrangement is perfect for trumpeters who
are looking to explore and perform classical opera duets, offering
them an opportunity to experience the richness and depth of
Bizet's music.
After a self-imposed absence, Nadir returns to Ceylon, where
his friend Zurga has recently been elected Fisher King by the
local pearl fishermen. The two friends had previously fallen in
love with the same woman, but they promised each other to
renounce their love for her and stay loyal to their friendship.
Upon reuniting, they sing a duet, reminiscing about how they
first became infatuated with a veiled priestess of Brahma they
had seen passing through an adoring crowd.

Points to consider

• The parts are arranged for Bb instruments. They will play in F
  major, sounding in Ebmajor (concert pitch)
• The measure numbering starts from the “Duo” in Bizet’s original
