This Trumpet Duet arrangement was created to preserve the characteristics of the original work, inspiring and significant to Beethoven’s well-known choral symphony. It is suitable for young music students and professional musicians, for recitals, repertoire, academic presentations, and didactic material. The transcription is faithful to the structure, with only one key change, maintaining the essence of the striking melody. Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony Op. 125 incorporates part of the poem An die Freude (“To Joyâ€), a hymn written by Friedrich Schiller, with the text sung by soloists and a choir in its last movement. It was the first example of a major composer using the human voice as prominently as instruments in a symphony, creating a far-reaching work that set the tone for the symphonic form adopted by Romantic composers. This is Ludwig van Beethoven’s last complete symphony. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best-known works in the Western repertoire, considered an icon and predecessor of Romantic music and one of Beethoven’s great masterpieces. It was first performed on May 7, 1824 at the Kärntnertortheater in Vienna, Austria.

The duet Au fond du temple saint from Georges Bizet's opera
Les Pêcheurs de Perles has now been beautifully arranged for
two trumpets. This arrangement is perfect for trumpeters who
are looking to explore and perform classical opera duets, offering
them an opportunity to experience the richness and depth of
Bizet's music.
After a self-imposed absence, Nadir returns to Ceylon, where
his friend Zurga has recently been elected Fisher King by the
local pearl fishermen. The two friends had previously fallen in
love with the same woman, but they promised each other to
renounce their love for her and stay loyal to their friendship.
Upon reuniting, they sing a duet, reminiscing about how they
first became infatuated with a veiled priestess of Brahma they
had seen passing through an adoring crowd.

Points to consider

  • The parts are arranged for Bb instruments. They will play in F
    major, sounding in Ebmajor (concert pitch)
  • The measure numbering starts from the “Duo” in Bizet’s original
    orchestral score.
  • These parts are used in real live performances with symphony
    orchestra's.

Der Vogelfanger bin ich Ja, (The Birdcatcher’s Song) is an aria from the first act of Mozart’s comic opera, The Magic Flute. It has become one of Mozart’s best loved melodies and features the birdcatcher Papageno. In the first production the role was played by the producer and theatre owner. He was not a trained singer so Mozart deliberately wrote a simple melody of limited range. This version is arranged as a duet for two Trumpets

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest. The duet format gives instrumentalists an opportunity to play music written for the voice. The overall performance time is around a minute and a half. The full-length youtube performance is the Clarinet version of this duet.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with detailed articulation and dynamics.
