Franz Josef Haydn was an Austrian composer who is best known for his work in the field of chamber music. He composed in a variety of musical forms, including divertimenti, trios and string quartets. He was a prolific composer who wrote over 100 pieces of chamber music and is believed to have been a major influence on the music of his students and contemporaries, including Mozart and Beethoven. Haydn's music is known for its balance and clarity in structure. His chamber works were known for their accessibility and elegance, with melodies that were often lighthearted and charming. His symphonies were well-crafted and often featured balanced melodic elements. Haydn composed many well-known divertimenti and trios, but his string quartets are what he is most celebrated for. He wrote some sixty to eighty string quartets, and these works were historically significant for expanding the limits of the genre and for their influence on the composers and musicians who followed him.

Composed by Edmund Hartzell. Children,Comedy,Halloween,Jazz,March. Score. 44 pages. Masquerade Music #1072813. Published by Masquerade Music (A0.1496273).

Tuneful Tales is a new collection of 14 pieces from the UK composer and educator Edmund Hartzell.

This edition is for saxophone duet (for any two same saxophones e.g.alto/alto, soprano/soprano, baritone/baritone or tenor/tenor - sorry the listing options did not allow me to add these options). The book consists of main book (duet layout) and separate pull out part (duet layout) for player 2. The duets can also work for alto/baritone, and soprano/tenor combinations but are really written for two same saxophones.

The MP3 audio excerpt and youtube demo are given on two alto saxophones and are merely a guide.

These magical miniatures are varied and eclectic and really help fire the imagination of players and teachers alike.

The pieces are suitable for beginner to intermediate players (c.grades 1-4 UK) and make a wonderful addition to teaching and concert repertoire for adults and children alike. They are also good preparation for exam pieces and can be used as 'own choice' exam pieces with certain exam boards (subject to difficulty level and length parameters).

Players are encouraged to expand on the stories to make the most of the performance aspects of each piece/tale.
