Alto Saxophone Duet Alto Saxophone - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.588475

Composed by David McKeown. Concert,Latin,Standards,World. 2 scores. 6 pages. David McKeown #5857371. Published by David McKeown (A0.588475).

Calypso d’Isaac is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Alto Saxophones.

This duet is written in the style of Calypso music. Calypso’s roots lie in West Africa but first appeared in recognisable form in the late 19th century in Trinidad.  Originally sung in French Creole, the music quickly spread throughout the Caribbean and Venezuela. The modern English-language Trinidadian style is often topical and political in content. Calypso performers such as Mighty Sparrow in turn have inspired new styles such as Ska, Reggae and Soca, while Calypso rhythms can be heard in countless international hits such as Mary’s Boy Child and Disney’s Under the Sea.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. Following the articulation in the score will help convey the relaxed but rhythmic style. Calypso d’Isaac has a performance time of two and a half minutes. Follow the link above to listen to a complete YouTube performance of the Clarinet version of Calypso d’Isaac.
