SKU: A0.814830

Composed by Frederic Chopin. Arranged by Richard E Brown. Romantic Period,Standards. 2 scores. 4 pages. Dacker Music #6101951. Published by Dacker Music (A0.814830).

Geared for 2nd or 3rd year saxophone students, this arrangement of one of Chopin's most popular compositions is transposed from the original E major to the more sax-friendly key of (written) F major (concert Ab for altos or concert Eb for tenors). Chopin himself is said to have considered this to be his loveliest melody. The entire duet can be played from the score without turning a page, so individual parts are not needed. Composed by Felix Bartholdy Mendelssohn. Arranged by Phil Beaman. Romantic Period,Standards. Score and parts. 4 pages. Phil Beaman #3383081. Published by Phil Beaman (A0.844461).

This beautiful tune was written by Felix Mendelssohn in 1845. He titled it Moderato in Bm when it was first published as Op 67 No 5 in a volume of his Songs Without Words. It was often referred to as Heide Lied , a type of pastoral German folk song. Another title derived from that is Song of the Heather. Many current editions give it the title The Shepherd's Complaint.
This instrumental duet arrangement takes a Romantic piece and sets it in 2 part writing. Even without the chords it is still very rich in sound and Romantic in feel. The metre is always in 3 even when the phrasing looks to be in 2; except for a section near the end where I have strayed from the original Mendelssohn and clearly marked Part II with tenutos to be in 2 against Part I in 3. I have also changed phrasing and articulation for more contrast between the two parts. This arrangement is faithful to the spirit of Mendelssohn yet freshens this beautiful old melody. The notes and rhythms are quite easy to play but I have marked it Early Intermediate because so much could be done with phrasing, articulation, and expression that would make this sound like a much more advanced piece. A great Romantic repertoire piece for students. For 2 Altos or 2 Tenors. (2 page score, 1 page Parts)

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #4355045. Published by David McKeown (A0.587522).

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for two Tenor Saxophones and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.

Probably the best known of Scott Joplin’s piano rags, The Entertainer was written in 1902. It was included on Joshua Rifkin’s famous 1970 revival recording of Joplin’s music and an orchestration featured on the soundtrack of the movie The Sting in 1973. This arrangement won an Oscar and reached No.3 on the US single charts.

This version has been arranged as a duet for two Tenor Saxophones and includes all four sections of the original composition. The full length youtube performance and the short audio sample are both from the Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around five minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with phrasing, syncopated rhythms and light articulation.

Composed by Henry Purcell. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score. 3 pages. David McKeown #4729519. Published by David McKeown (A0.587662).

The Trumpet Tune and Air was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was attributed to Henry Purcell. But more recently many have questioned whether the composer was in fact Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. What is known is that the piece was written for a semi-opera called The Island Princess, and that both men contributed music to the production. In recent years this piece has become a popular wedding favourite.

This full version is arranged as a duet for two Tenor Saxophones and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The short sample here and the full length version on the youtube link are from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. There are of course separate piano and instrumental parts included in downloaded the file.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamic contrast.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Tenor Saxophones.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets, each written in a different Rock’n’Roll style. Doo-wop reached the height of its popularity in the early ‘60s but its origins were in the African-American vocal harmony groups in East Coast cities in the ‘40s. Doo-Wop was a major influence on the soul and pop music that followed it, with groups such as the Drifters, the Four Seasons and even the Beach Boys adopting the vocal harmonies.

Daffodil Doo-Wop is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a playing-time of around two minutes, Daffodil Doo-Wop is a perfect addition to any performance program, formal or informal. The Spring Chicken Swing is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Tenor Saxophones.

The Spring Chicken Swing is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Swing in the narrow sense defines the rhythmic feel and articulation of jazz music, but the word has come to define the Big Band Jazz era of the ‘30s and’40s and the new-style dances that came with it.

The Spring Chicken Swing is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo, some syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, The Spring Chicken Swing is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. The Easter Egg Rock is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Tenor Saxophones.

The Easter Egg Rock is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. Modern Rock music has its origins in Rock’n’Roll, with the first use of the word in 1951 by an Ohio DJ.  The first big hit was Bill Haley’s Rock Around the Clockin 1955, but other artists such as Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley, Gene Vincent and Little Richard all have strong claims to being the first Rock’n’Roll artist.

The Easter Egg Rock is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. The Easter Bonnet Bop is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for two Tenor Saxophones.

The Easter Bonnet Bop is one in a series of ten Easter-themed duets each written in a different American dance style. The origins of the word Bop lie in the scat language of the ‘40s; Bop quickly became associated with the fast Bebop jazz of the period as musicians vocalised the offbeat rhythms of their angular melodies. Later in the ‘50s when Rockabilly and Rock’n’Roll first appeared, Bop was used to describe both the dance moves and the dance venues themselves.

The Easter Bonnet Bop is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms and accidentals. With a playing-time of around one and a half minutes, The Easter Bonnet Bop is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. This gospel version of Amazing Grace is arranged as a duet for two Tenor Saxophones. Written in 1773 by John Newton and set to the traditional melody New Britain, Amazing Grace is perhaps the best-known and best-loved hymn in the world.
