This duet is inspired by the French Chanson style associated with café life in Paris and beyond. This music has its roots in La Belle Epoque and was popularized by singers such as Édith Piaf, Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour. Long associated with romance, L’Amour is just what’s needed when love is in the air.

L’Amour is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. The melody should always flow; following the articulation in the score and adding plenty of expression will help convey the style. L’Amour has a performance time of around three minutes.

This Neo-Baroque suite was written for saxophonists Andy Wen and Willie L. Morris III for a performance at the 2000 World Saxophone Congress in Montreal. It was transcribed in 2011 for flute and clarinet. While the movements are based in tonality, they move freely from key to key. The movements are modeled after a Baroque suite and treat the two instruments contrapuntally. It is recorded by the Ardente Duo on the Emeritus Recordings CD Hep Cats.
