This version is arranged as a duet for two Trombones. Jewish Wedding bands, prominent in early twentieth century New York, were well placed to take advantage of the phonograph recording revolution. Accordingly, we are fortunate to have a rich record of the musical style of the time. Silver Wedding first appeared in a 1915 recording by Abe Elenkrig’s Orchestra. Elenkrig was born in Ukraine, which may point to the origins of the tune. Silver Wedding is in a Bulgar style, a happy piece designed to escort the newly-weds from the ceremony to the feast. Silver Wedding is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a short introduction and coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. All of it so both sound sources melt into one single musical discourse which evolves and transforms every so often, as if mimicking the multiple decisions and thoughts one can take during a self-reflecting process.The motivation behind the composition of this work lies in the need to offer a repertoire with the demands and challenges present in the repertoire used in exam boards and conservatories but with a modern use of harmony and melody such as the one we can hear on television or in the cinema. So the harmonic language, the form, the compositional techniques and the use of rhythm, melody and articulation in this work presents a blend a current style present in American film music, television, musicals, Jazz or minimalism (with influences from composers such as Ludovico Einaudi, Yann Tiersen, John Williams, Michael Nyman, or Hans Zimmer) with the type of writing, thematic treatment, piano technique and musical form found in the classical chamber music repertoire. Approximate duration: 3 mins.Written in Barcelona on April 2023.
