A Glenn Miller classic, depicting a train ride from New York to Chattanooga, Tennessee, passing through Baltimore and North Carolina. It starts with the old steam train slowly pulling out of the station, then rattling along with one of the great big band tunes. This arrangement imitates train whistles to enhance the railway experience. It ends with two cheeky chords for the final whistle, Whoo Whoo. It's suitable for intermediate or advanced players and is ideal for pupil / teacher playing together. Older audiences remember the tune. In My Life by the Beatles, was released on the 1965 album, Rubber Soul. It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.

This version of In My Life is arranged as a duet for two Trombones.

Musicians at an intermediate level will find In My Life ideal for formal and informal concert performance. Most of the duet is straightforward though the transcribed piano solo is difficult for both players; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The full YouTube performance above is the Clarinet Duet version of In My Life.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and syncopated rhythms.

Joropo de Justina is an exciting original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for two Trombones.

This duet is based on the traditional Latin style of Joropo which is the national and traditional music of Venezuela. The music and its accompanying dance comes from the central plains area and is also found over the border in parts of Colombia. The basic pulse of the Joropo is 3, but this is overlaid with complex cross-rhythms. The main instrument is the harp, along with cuatro and maracas as the only percussion instrument. In the modern era other instruments may join the ensemble, especially bass. This arrangement represents the song style of Joropo, with the vocal alternating with instrumental breaks.

If you play to an advanced intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The many cross rhythms will provide a rhythmic challenge and there is little time to catch breath; following the articulation in the score will help convey the style.
