SKU: A0.589439

By Ben E. King. By Ben E. King, Jerry Leiber, and Mike Stoller. Arranged by David McKeown. Pop. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6070219. Published by David McKeown (A0.589439).

Stand by Me was originally released by the co-writer Ben E King in 1960 and is the sixth highest royalty earning song of all time.  However, King never intended to record the song himself. The story goes he had some studio time left over after a session and the producer asked him if he had any other songs they could put on tape. When King sat at the piano and performed Stand by Me, the producer recognised a huge hit in the making. This version is arranged as a duet for one Clarinet and one Trumpet.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around three minutes.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. There are some complex syncopated rhythms in the melody part and the challenge will be to tie these expressively to the repeating bass pattern which is present throughout. The short sample audio is from the Clarinet and Alto Saxophone version while the full length youtube performance is the Clarinet Duet.

Composed by Adam Lenhart. Contemporary,Instructional,Standards. 3 pages. Adam Lenhart #6704851. Published by Adam Lenhart (A0.949392).

Still Waters is just as the title describes: simple and beautiful. This flowing duet features call-and-response phrases, as well as contrasting dynamics to give the song a push-and-pull feeling. A great early-intermediate piece to display the player's ability to use dynamics in a beautiful and emotional way.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by David McKeown. Rock. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #5711465. Published by David McKeown (A0.588605).

Help! by the Beatles, was the title track of the 1965 album of the same name. It was also the name of the Beatles’ film released in the same year. Help! was primarily written by John Lennon. In later interviews he admitted that Help! was a subconscious response to the pressures of fame and that commercial pressures had forced the band to record it as an up-tempo pop song rather than a reflective ballad.

This version of Help! is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Clarinet.

The range will suit musicians at an intermediate level though the fast tempo and syncopated rhythms will represent a challenge. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The full length performance on the YouTube link above is the Clarinet version of this duet.
