Nur wenige Werke sind uns von dem um 1733 geborenen und am 22. August 1813 in Berlin verstorbenen Komponisten Johann Christoph Schultze erhalten. Über sein Leben wissen wir wenig; bekannt ist nur, dass er seit 1768 Kapellmeister am Döbbelinschen Theater in Berlin war. Diese Ouverture gehört stilistisch und formal zur Gattung der Ouverturensuiten. Diese sind als Folgen von mehr oder weniger stilisierten Tanzstücken mit einer französischen Ouverture (langsam-schnell-langsam) an der Spitze anzusprechen.
