It is normally in compound time, but I have changed it here to make it more accessible for beginners. This arrangement is based on the opening theme from Voluntary II for Organ by John Alcock, Jr. Mr. Alcock was an organist from the Classical Period and this piece is a great example of the Classical characteristics with a lyrical melody of light elegance.The two parts, which each stay within the range of 1 octave, are equally balanced, playing in parallel thirds much of the time, and the rest of the time playing off of each other in tight ensemble work. This makes a great recital piece to develop your melodic tone and showcase the melodies of the Classical Period.
