ALL HARPS INTERMEDIATE + MELODY INSTRUMENT – Fifteen Traditional Tunes from Cornwall arranged for Lever harps tuned in Eb, Bb or F, or any pedal harp.  All of these arrangements fit within the 26-string range. Fifteen Arrangements of Traditional Tunes from Cornwall arranged for Lever harps tuned in Eb, Bb or F, or any pedal harp.  Guitar chords included, with duo parts for Flute or Violin.

These tunes have been placed in progressive key order to create a satisfying “Cornish suite� that facilitates lever and pedal changes. All tunes were typeset to fix exactly on two facing pages to eliminate any page turns within a piece.

Guitar chords are included so that the melody may be played by any C instrument, accompanied by chords on harp, lute, guitar, or keyboard. Also, the transcribed harp part can be played on any keyboard instrument with only minor adjustments. Only one song in this collection, #6, has any lever or pedal changes (B-flat and B-natural). Otherwise, there are only lever or pedal presets in preparation for the next song. Dynamic markings, fingerings, metronome markings, breath marks, and lever/pedal changes are provided throughout. However, the musicians should use whichever expressive markings and lever/pedal adjustments suit them, no matter what this book indicates! Due to space constraints, first and second endings were only indicated above the flute/violin part in the full score and dynamics only within the harp part; but these markings apply to both instruments. (However, all markings are indicated on the separate instrumental leaflet.) This entire book of arrangements can be played on a harp of only 26 strings (3.5 octaves), from low C to high G. Simply treat the C two octaves below middle C as the lowest C on your harp and adjust the octaves accordingly. Ignore any 8va indications and shorten any glissandos.

Suitable for lever harps or pedal harps. 
This song, being a traditional tune from Norway, makes me imagine a wintry scene. So it seems especially apt for December celebrations, which is when I usually play it.  But it’s perfectly appropriate any time of year!
The sound is interesting to American ears due to the use of the Lydian mode. It’s based on F, but with B naturals (instead of B flats as in F Major)! There are no lever or pedal changes. 
The Harp I part (with the melody) is intermediate, and the Harp II part (the accompaniment) is super easy. It would be a fun song for a teacher and student to play together.  You can easily turn this duet into a trio by having Harp III take over the left-hand parts of Harp I.

Carrickfergus is a town in County Antrim, north of Belfast. The lyrics tell of a nostalgic person missing his homeland and wishing he could move back to Carrickfergus. In this arrangement, the beautiful melody is augmented by flowing arpeggiated interludes representing the sound of waves from the sea.

The Multi-level pieces were initially arranged in an A Version. When that was completed, it was then simplified to form the B Version.  The B Version has thinner lines and allows more time for placing the fingers. The purpose is to permit harpists of various playing levels to enjoy performing together.

In the key of G, the melody is divided evenly between parts. Dynamics are clearly marked.

This sweet, well known Christmas melody was originally a Finnish springtime song, dating to the 13th Century. It was published in 1582 in a book of seventy-four songs. After receiving a copy of that book as a gift, John Mason Neale set his lyrics celebrating the famous Bohemian (907-935) to this melody. In 1854, the book Carols for Easter-tide was published, including Good King Wenceslas as a Springtime song.

This arrangement has 5 verses in the key of G. It represents Good King Wenceslas and his Page trudging through (eighth notes) the harsh winter weather on December 26 as they leave their warm castle to help the poor. Occasionally there is a pause as they catch their breath or look through the swirling snow at how far they have traveled. The fourth verse represents the Page walking in King Wenceslas’s footsteps.
