He sent it from Canada to his Mother in Ireland. In 1868, American Charles Converse, an attorney and composer of hymns, came across Scriven’s poem and set the words to music, publishing it in a hymnal. Set in the key of F, the melody is shared equally between parts. Each part is of equal difficulty, although Harp II makes F# in each verse. Dynamics are clearly marked. Waltz II is the most famous melody. The pedal and lever harp duet versions are not the same, although they can perform in an ensemble together. They differ in the pedal/lever markings, harmony notes and which harp is playing the melody note. The dynamics and Waltz sections are clearly marked. The Harp Ensemble would perform for 2 hours each evening as guests arrived at the UW-Eau Claire’s annual Viennese Ball in the student center (1998-2016). The invitation was extended because Eduard Strauss, the youngest Strauss, was a harpist. He conducted his own orchestra from his harp and toured the United States.
