Obs.: TheĀ 17 Polish Songs, Op. 74 were assembled posthumously and are not in chronological order.Ā This particular song,Ā WiosnaĀ [Spring], although the second song in the set, was actually the fourteenth Chopin wrote.Ā It wasĀ composed in 1838Ā andĀ first published in Berlin in 1857.Ā It is thus contemporary with the Op. 33 mazurkas and Op. 40 polonaises.Ā Chopin's Polish songĀ WiosnaĀ is set on a text by the composer's friend and Polish poetĀ Stefan Witwicki (1801-1847).Ā Witwicki's descriptions of blossoming flowers and animals in green pastures contrast with gloomy ruminations.Ā
The music is beautifully simple and quite melancholic.Ā This piano pieceĀ WiosnaĀ is in fact theĀ piano partĀ of the songĀ Wiosna.Ā Chopin arranged it for piano solo several times for his friends between 1838 and 1848.
Franz LisztĀ also transcribed it for the second of hisĀ Chants polonais.
This is an arrangement for Viola and Cello.
