Symphonie Fantastique (Fantastical Symphony: Episode in the Life of an Artist â€¦ in Five Sections) Op. 14, is a program symphony written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. It is an important piece of theearly Romantic period. The first performance was at the Paris Conservatoire on 5 December 1830. Franz Liszt made a piano transcription of the symphony in 1833 (S. 470).Leonard Bernstein described the symphony as the first musical expedition into psychedelia because of itshallucinatory and dream-like nature, and because history suggests Berlioz composed at least a portion under the influence of opium. According to Bernstein, Berlioz tells it like it is. You take a trip, you wind up screaming at your own funeral.Symphonie Fantastique is a piece of program music that tells the story of an artist gifted with a lively imagination who has poisoned himself with opium in the depths of despair because of hopeless, unrequited love.The original way in which Berlioz fused all the ingredients and elements into his music with great emotional intensity and musical brilliance makes this symphony such a masterpiece. It was truly revolutionary in that nothing like it had ever been heard before.

Opus/Catalog Number: Op.74, No.2, B.117 Key/Tone: G Minor Movements/Sections: 1 (Andantino) Year/Date of Composition: 1838 Difficulty: Grade 4/12 (Intermediate) Obs.: The 17 Polish Songs, Op. 74 were assembled posthumously and are not in chronological order. This particular song, Wiosna [Spring], although the second song in the set, was actually the fourteenth Chopin wrote. It was composed in 1838 and first published in Berlin in 1857. It is thus contemporary with the Op. 33 mazurkas and Op. 40 polonaises. Chopin's Polish song Wiosna is set on a text by the composer's friend and Polish poet Stefan Witwicki (1801-1847). Witwicki's descriptions of blossoming flowers and animals in green pastures contrast with gloomy ruminations. The music is beautifully simple and quite melancholic. This piano piece Wiosna is in fact the piano part of the song Wiosna. Chopin arranged it for piano solo several times for his friends between 1838 and 1848.Franz Liszt also transcribed it for the second of his Chants polonais. Published by Luis Anjos Teixeira (A0.889441). Celtiberian Fantasy For Violin And Cello Celtiberian Fantasy was composed while righting a finale for the Princess of Sintra, both pieces are „sisters. To the last note of „The Princess Of Sintra follows the first of the „Celtiberian Fantasy.  Together with the „Celtiberian Dance as an Intro all this 3 pieces can be performed one after the other without interruption. Some interpretation symbols where used in the score, they are mere personal suggestions for a performance. Most of the score is left to the interpretation of the artists involved, particularly the use of fingering.  The bowing is very often simply used as a reference to musical legato. The staccato is meant to shorten the length of the notes to half of its duration and is often used to simplify the righting and the reading of the score. The piece is not difficult but it requires focused endurance and some practice on certain passages.  Once learned you will never forget it.  When performed Live It will give you back a great  feedback from the public, you will always want to have it in your repertoire. Feel Free to apply in this piece the Art and technic that expresses entirely your individual skills and taste. Have fun! It is a very flexible piece that can be used in all kinds of events.
