Instrumental Duet Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download

SKU: A0.802591

Composed by Louis-Hector Berlioz. Arranged by Peet du Toit. Contemporary. Score and parts. 1 pages. Peet du Toit #5828393. Published by Peet du Toit (A0.802591).

Symphonie Fantastique (Fantastical Symphony: Episode in the Life of an Artist … in Five Sections) Op. 14,
is a program symphony written by the French composer Hector Berlioz in 1830. It is an important piece of the
early Romantic period. The first performance was at the Paris Conservatoire on 5 December 1830. Franz Liszt
made a piano transcription of the symphony in 1833 (S. 470).

Leonard Bernstein described the symphony as the first musical expedition into psychedelia because of its
hallucinatory and dream-like nature, and because history suggests Berlioz composed at least a portion under the influence of opium.

According to Bernstein, Berlioz tells it like it is. You take a trip, you wind up screaming at your own funeral.

Symphonie Fantastique is a piece of program music that tells the story of an artist gifted with a lively imagination
who has poisoned himself with opium in the depths of despair because of hopeless, unrequited love.

The original way in which Berlioz fused all the ingredients and elements into his music with great emotional
intensity and musical brilliance makes this symphony such a masterpiece. It was truly revolutionary in that
nothing like it had ever been heard before.

Composed by Leopold Hofmann. Arranged by Allan Badley. Classical. 83 pages. Artaria Editions #1065120. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488233).

A near contemporary and rival of Haydn, Leopold Hofmann was held in the highest regard in his native Vienna where he served as Kapellmeister at St Stephen's Cathedral, a position to which Mozart might have succeeded had he lived. Hofmann was a prolific composer of instrumental music and he wrote a good deal of chamber music although much of it has been lost.

Hofmann also composed a substantial body of chamber music for strings and among the most interesting of these works are the Six Sonatas for Violin & Basso. The sonatas are as a whole more technically difficult than any of the composer's other chamber works with violin. In some respects, particularly in their extensive use of double-stopping and two-part textures in the violin part, they are more technically demanding than his violin concertos.

There is no attempt, however, to involve the basso in the presentation of thematic material and in this respect the sonatas are quite unlike Hofmann's one extant Duo for Violin and Violoncello (Badley II.D2) in which the two parts are treated equally. In view of their technical difficulty and limited dissemination it is difficult to understand Hofmann's motivation for composing the sonatas. Their exploration of multiple-voicing, particularly in first and second movements, and the use of a Minuet with variations for five of the finales all of which follow a similar pattern of technical exploitation suggests that the sonatas may have been composed by Hofmann in the first instance as teaching pieces.

Composed by Ignaz Josef Pleyel. Arranged by Allan Badley. Classical. 47 pages. Artaria Editions #1065176. Published by Artaria Editions (A0.1488288).

Artaria Editions AE408

Ignaz Pleyel (1757-1831) was at one time the most famous composer in the world. The popularity of his music eclipsed that of even his teacher Haydn and publishers vied to bring out his latest works as soon as they were finished. Some 2000 separate prints of Pleyel works had appeared by 1800 and his fame extended to every corner of Europe and as far afield as North America.

Pleyel's career as a composer spanned less than thirty years with the majority of his works composed in the 1780s. He founded a successful publishing house in Paris in the mid-1790s and later began manufacturing keyboard instruments. With increasing demands on his time from his business concerns Pleyel's productivity as a composer dropped sharply and he ceased composing around 1805. Among the authentic chamber works the duos occupy a particularly interesting place.

The Six Duos for Violin & Violoncello (Benton 501-506) appeared in over twenty editions in Pleyel's lifetime, the first in 1787, and in a variety of scorings. Although their unusual instrumentation undoubtedly contributed to the popularity of the Duos, their musical qualities - evidenced by the large number of contemporary arrangements - probably played a greater role. The works abound in attractive and distinctive melodic material; Pleyel writes idiomatically for both instruments and his part-writing is varied and interesting.

Composed by Giuseppe Giordani. Arranged by César Madeira. Classical,Film/TV,Multicultural,Opera,Wedding,World. 4 pages. Sheet Music To Play Editions #778581. Published by Sheet Music To Play Editions (A0.1178618).

Caro Mio Ben (Come Once Again) by Giuseppe Giordani. Arrangement for Violin and Violoncello. With Full Score and Individual Parts. Enjoy it!

Giuseppe Tommaso Giovanni Giordani (1751 - 1798) was an Italian composer, mainly of opera. Giordani's parents were Domenico Giordani and Anna Maria Tosato. He studied music in Naples with Domenico Cimarosa and Niccolò Antonio Zingarelli. In 1774 he was appointed as music director of the chapel of the Duomo of Naples. His first opera (L'Epponina) was released in 1779. His sacred drama La distruzione di Gerusalemme was a notable success at the Teatro San Carlo of Naples in 1787. He became maestro di cappella at the Cathedral of Fermo in 1791. Until recently, the popular aria Caro Mio Ben (1783) was ascribed to Giuseppe Tommaso Giovanni Giordani. However, scholars now consider Tommaso Giordani, or his father Giuseppe Giordani senior, more likely to be the aria's composer.

GENERAL PREFACE – ΓΕΝΙΚΟΣ ΠΡΟΛΟΓΟΣ

This edition of violin and violoncello duets follows closely my publication of the same Greek folk pieces for classical guitar. The arrangements for guitar solo were written in two-part counterpoint and followed the strophic form of the folk songs involved. The melodic transcriptions of the folk melodies were not based in any particular performance, also avoiding the elaborate in many cases instrumental introductions associated with these songs. Thus, only the vocal melodies in a general recognizable version were presented. This new presentation for instrumental duets will stay with this generalised melodic version (without exploiting the instrumental introductions), but the form from strophic will become ternary (ABA). In the middle section the main melody will be played in the lower voice and the original guitar contrapuntal voice will be used in the upper voice if by chance it includes invertible counterpoint, otherwise new material will be added to fit the rules but also the intended harmony.
The total collection is centred more on the music from mainland Greece and less in that from the Islands.
The three dance rhythms of Kalamatianos (7/8), Tsamikos (3/4), and Syrtos Balos (2/4) are predominant in the whole first collection.
