While some parts are inescapably hard, even in the original, I have taken care to mark easier alternatives and parts that can be skipped, or early endings.  The best thing is, you only have to find one other person in order to play this wonderful music.

The score and separate violin and cello parts are included, paginated for easy handling so you never need but two sheets at the same time on your music stand (5 sheets for each part total).

It is not a beginners choice, it is appropriate for experienced and advanced students and musicians. 

It is relatively easy to perform once thoroughly practiced. 

When played „Live you will experience a great rewarding from its magical power upon the public.

Some interpretation symbols where used in the score, they are mere personal suggestions. Most of the score is left to the interpretation of the artists involved, particularly the use of fingering. 

The bowing is very often simply used as a reference to musical legato. 

The staccato is meant to shorten the length of the notes to half of its duration and is often used to simplify the righting and the reading of the score.

The piece is not difficult but it requires focused endurance and some practice on certain passages. 

Once learned you will never forget it. 

When performed Live It will give you back a great  feedback from the public, you will always want to have it in your repertoire.

ELEKTRA, PRINCESS OF ARGOS violin and cello duet. Advanced. Based on her lamentations.  Written to challenge two professional friends of mine.  Virtuosic pitch-class serial music.

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Violin and Cello and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.
