Cello,Instrumental Duet,Violin - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1477735 By Tony Bennett. By Bart Howard. Arranged by Homco/Crinion. Jazz. 9 pages. Homco/Crinion #1055115. Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1477735). When first written in 1954 by Bart Howard, this song was titled In Other Words and it was in 3/4-time waltz style. It wasn't until Frank Sinatra recorded a jazzy version in 1964 that the song gained popularity. Another spur to the sales was the close association of the song to the Apollo moon missions and the eventual landing on the Moon. This Duo version gives all the melody to the violin while the cello keeps the beat with the basic bass line.

The lyrics we know and love were added much later by German composer Ernst Anschütz in 1824. The lyrics were originally a homage to the fir tree, using the evergreen foliage as a metaphor for constancy and loyalty. The association with Christmas appeared later in the nineteenth century. With a performance time of three minutes and a half minutes, this version of O Christmas Tree is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz waltz style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.O Christmas Tree is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in jazz waltz music, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. While the key is straightforward, there are several busy passages to keep players on their toes. The melody is played four times, the last in 4/4 time with a short coda. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate level. Homco/Crinion #1047070. Published by Homco/Crinion (A0.1469050). Old Hundredth (Doxology) is a hymn tune from the 16th Century. It received its current name from its association with the 100th Psalm. The old melody is also sung to different lyrics and has been used in chorales and instrumental works. J.S. Bach used the melody in one of his Cantatas and Felix Mendelssohn in one of his Piano Trios. Most recently, Ralph Vaughan Williams used the old 100th psalm tune for the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in a brass fanfare. This arrangement for violin & cello is a theme-and-variations type setting of the melody.
