He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands is a traditional American Gospel Song. This version is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Trombone.

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands has unknown nineteenth century origins, but was first published in 1927 and reached a wider audience with Laurie London’s version in 1957. Mahalia Jackson often performed He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands in her inimitable style.

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands is played eight times in a gospel swing style. The melody climbs through six different keys, a semitone at a time, with the accompaniment varying throughout. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.

He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three and minutes, this version of He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands is perfect for worship and concert performances, both formal and informal.

These fanfares are palindromes and canons.  When played backwards, Fanfare I (Move it Forward) becomes Fanfare II (Take it Back).  Each fanfare can be played as a separate piece.  One suggestion for performance would be to have Fanfare I announce the beginning of a concert or recital and then use Fanfare II to announce the second half of the concert, following intermission. Individual parts are included.  The audio sample is a recording of Fanfare I, performed at Christ Church Cathedral in St. Louis, MO.
