Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Trumpet and one Trombone

Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Trumpet and Trombone.

When you think about it, it’s obvious why Scott is scatterbrained, seeing as there’s nothing to stop his brain falling out. His friends also called him scatterlunged and scatterspleened. He’s a happy chap, not a deep thinker of course, but he always has a smile for everyone.

Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. The main melody is staccato, with a more lyrical and sustained middle section. The key and range are as accessible as possible for both players. With a playing-time of just under four minutes, Scott the Scatterbrained Skeleton is a perfect fun addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Walter the Weary Werewolf is a spooky and original duet written by David McKeown for one Trumpet and one Trombone

Walter the Weary Werewolf is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Trumpet and Trombone.

Walter has a young family and a responsible job as a vet, so he needs a good night’s sleep. When there’s a full moon he sprouts fangs, claws and body hair like all the other werewolves, but rather than howling, he scratches the back of his neck with his leg and goes back to sleep with a whimper. His wife was surprised the first time, but she’s used to it now.

Walter the Weary Werewolf is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above. The main melody has many accidentals and challenging timing, while the faster middle section features irregular metre. The range is accessible for both players. With a playing-time of just under four minutes, Walter the Weary Werewolf is a perfect spooky addition to any performance program, formal or informal. Derek the Deskbound Demon is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Trumpet and one Trombone.

Derek the Deskbound Demon is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Trumpet and Trombone.

Most demons spend their time playing fiendish tricks on folk or devising infernal tortures, but all that activity requires organisation behind the scenes and that’s where Derek comes in. Not for him, the sweaty toil at the furnace; Derek may well have little red horns and a pointy tail, but he much prefers sorting out payroll, tax receipts, spreadsheets and work rotas.

Derek the Deskbound Demon is suitable for players at an advanced intermediate level and above, with the accessible key and range balanced by the fast tempo and variable meter. With a playing-time of around three minutes, Derek the Deskbound Demon is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal. SKU: A0.587535

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #4355085. Published by David McKeown (A0.587535).

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Trumpet and Trombone and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.

Composed by Germaine Tailleferre. 20th Century,Chamber,Classical,Film/TV. 6 pages. Musik Fabrik Music Publishing #1074025. Published by Musik Fabrik Music Publishing (A0.1497612).

Born on February 23, 1924, in La Flèche, Jacques Bouillault was 21 years old when, in 1945, he met the Marquise Hélène Rola de Rosycki, who settled him in a forest lodge located southeast of the town, on the Tertre-Rouge hill. Initially, he established himself there as a naturalist-taxidermist. His preserved
animals were joined by live ones: birds, foxes, reptiles, rodents... In 1955, the filmmaker Marco de Gastyne made a short film about Bouillault and his zoological park entitled Homme, Notre Ami (Man, Our Friend), with music by Germaine Tailleferre, who was particularly drawn to animals.

The « Singes » (Monkeys) sequence is intended to illustrate the capers and other playful activities of these primates in a rather humorous manner.

Ding Dong Merrily on High is a much-loved Christmas carol. This version is arranged as a duet in a Jazz Shuffle/Swing style for one Trumpet and one Trombone. Click on the YouTube link above to listen to a full length performance of this arrangement played on Clarinet.

The melody of Ding Dong Merrily on High first appeared in a French book of secular dance tunes during the sixteenth century. The Christmas lyrics we know and love were added much later by English composer and rector George Ratcliffe Woodward and first published in 1924.

With a performance time around of three minutes, this version of Ding Dong Merrily on High is perfect for seasonal celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. The jazz shuffle style is a fun and fresh take on this familiar traditional tune.

Ding Dong Merrily on High is arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. Rhythms are syncopated, as one would expect in swing music, and there is plenty of articulation detail to help deliver an authentic style. While the key is straightforward, there are several chromatic passages to keep players on their toes. The melody is played twice, with short bell-chiming intros and outros. This arrangement is suitable for players at an intermediate or early advanced level.

By The Beatles. By John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Arranged by David McKeown. Rock. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #5324703. Published by David McKeown (A0.589079).

In My Life by the Beatles, was released on the 1965 album, Rubber Soul. It was chiefly written and sung by John Lennon, who claimed it was his first serious attempt at personal song-writing. The song features a baroque style piano solo by George Martin. The tempo was too fast for him to perform it, so he played it at half tempo and layer doubled the tape speed. The resulting tinny sound gave rise to a host of copycat harpsichord solos on contemporary pop songs.

This version of In My Life is arranged as a duet for one Trumpet and one Trombone.

Musicians at an intermediate level will find In My Life ideal for formal and informal concert performance. Most of the duet is straightforward though the transcribed piano solo is difficult for both players; these eight bars can be skipped without affecting the overall structure of the song. The overall performance time is around two and a half minutes. The full YouTube performance above is the Clarinet Duet version of In My Life.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and syncopated rhythms.
