Carl Maria von Weber (1786 –1826) was a German composer, conductor, pianist, guitarist and critic, one of the first significant composers of the Romantic school. This Romanze is very similar to Sicilienne in E-flat major by M.T. von Paradis. It is however spurious, as it is believed to have been composed by its purported discoverer, Samuel Dushkin, who probably used Weber's Romanze an inspiration for his composition.

This was the first recording of calypso music, pre-dating the first jazz record by five years.  Originally performed on violins, clarinet, flute, cello and a number of strumming instruments (guitar, mandolin, Venezuelan cuatro and Portuguese braga). This arrangement distills the lively, improvised nature into an arrangement for intermediate violin with chords and suggested strumming patterns (for guitar, ukelele, mandolin or any other plucked instruments). Part of Paseos and Waltzes of Trinidad Vol.1. which can be purchased for $29.99 as complete set of 12 paseos and waltzes, as recorded by Lovey's Band and Lionel Belasco's Orchestra 1912-1918.Arrangements for larger ensembles (strings and woodwind), are also available.

In 1986, the Tennessee Dance Theater commissioned the Suite from O’Connor to be performed as a violin solo at Nashville’s Summer Lights Festival. The individual tunes are in various folk styles appearing in a chronological form for which O’Connor says not only represents the evolution of American folk music, but also mirrors his own family’s migration from Ireland and Holland to America. It traces the family’s route through the thirteen colonies initially, and then eventually out West during WWl nearly 300 hundred years later. O’Connor wrote the pieces in a manner and style in which he felt his family could have heard along the way. The Suite begins with Irish music, maybe similar to what O’Connor’s family brought with them. Then in a thoughtful progression, reveals music they must of encountered living in early America. Strings & Threads musically describes how folk music styles hundreds of years apart are interconnected - possessing a common thread, from an Irish reel to jazz.
