The original 1960 production, directed by Moss Hart with orchestrations by Robert Russell Bennett and Philip J. Lang, ran on Broadway for 873 performances, winning four Tony Awards. It starred Richard Burton as Arthur, Julie Andrews as Guenevere, and Robert Goulet as Lancelot. It spawned several notable productions including four Broadway revivals and a 1967 film adaptation. The 2023 Broadway revival features a revised book by Aaron Sorkin. The musical has become associated with the Presidency of John F. Kennedy, which is sometimes called the Camelot Era, because of an interview with Jackie Kennedy in which she compared her husband's presidency to King Arthur's reign, specifically mentioning his fondness for the musical and particularly the title song's closing lyrics, which end Camelot.

Composed by Ivor Novello. Arranged by Marcus Martin. 20th Century,Broadway,Musical/Show. Score. 4 pages. Cornelius Edition (uk) #865615. Published by Cornelius Edition (uk) (A0.1273477).

We'll Gather Lilacs, also called We'll Gather Lilacs In The Spring, is a song by Welsh composer Ivor Novello which he wrote for the hit musical romance Perchance to Dream. The stage musical opened at the Hippodrome Theatre in London's West End in 1945 and ran until 1948. The song was the most popular and enduring to emerge from the production.

It has since been performed by many artists, including notably Anne Zieglerand Webster Booth, Richard Tauber, Bing Crosby Frank Sinatra  and Julie Andrews.

Written as World War II drew to its close, the song describes the yearning of parted couples to be reunited. It evokes the joy they would feel when together once again, and the pleasures of the English countryside in spring with its lilac blossom.

This version is in the higher key of G and suitable for Soprano or Tenor voices.
