Notes On the Sheet Music Melody The melody alters slightly on repeating for subsequent verses etc. These are notated using smaller bracketed note heads and should only be played/sung on the appropriate repeats. The decision was made to not notate the final chorus as sung however when performed/sung the final chorus could be ad-libbed to emulate the original should the performer desire. Structure The sheet music follows the structure of the song as heard in the recording. If the repeats are not obvious each section (Verse/PreChorus/Chorus) is marked by boxed texts for ease of navigation. Length One of my main aims in arranging popular titles is to make the effort to try and minimise the amount of pages required. As a Musician I hate having pages and pages of music that could have been condensed using repeats and other structure markings. This arrangement fully utilises these and this is part of the reason why the decision was made note to notate the final chorus as sung in the recording. Alternatives I also have an Voice, Piano, and Guitar Arrangement, which has the melody on its own staff with the guitar chords above with a simple piano accompaniment under neath. This is one of my favourite Elton John tunes. I'm also a big fan of the music of Scott Joplin and thought it would be interesting to play Elton John's 'Daniel' in a ragtime style. I have actually used techniques that were post Joplin but it still has a strong ragtime feel and is a lot of fun to play.I have taken it through the keys of C major and Db major. There are a number of tenths in the left hand. These may be difficult for those with smaller hands but they can be rolled or replaced with a single root note or octave.I don't include dynamics, fingering or pedal markings and prefer to leave these to the discretion of the individual pianist as no two piano teachers can agree on this. I like to give the notes to the reader as simply as possible and another shortcut I often use is to write for example quavers/eight notes even when the notes should be longer. This makes it easier to read than so many voicings, rests and different note durations. The player can instinctively tell which notes should be held longer. You should therefore find my music very accessible.I hope you have as much fun learning and playing this tune as I had arranging it!

Notes about the music This digital sheet music includes the melody on a separate stave, a piano accompaniment, and a short intro, making it perfect for piano instrumentalists, singers, and small groups. To make this piece more accessible I have arranged it in the key of G Major which is a third below the recorded version which is in B Major. This makes the higher notes more attainable to sing for a more people and makes it easier to play for most. Who likes playing with 5 sharps?! Structure In this arrangement there is a slight variation from the structure from the Subtract Recording. As mentioned above a short intro is included which is the melody from the end of the chorus. After this the repeats and D.S markings will follow the form as heard on the recording. On the final chorus rather than playing the bass as written and played for the previous occurrences just playing simple sustained root notes of the chord to bring it all back and give the melody some space for the last time through, this would emulate the feeling in the recording. Melody As with all my arrangements, to try an minimise the number of pages needed, the small note heads in brackets indicate where the melody is different when repeated and these notes should be played/sung on the appropriate verse. The melismatic phrase on boat at the end of bar 37 is a simplification of what is sung on the recording and the performer is free to amend as it suits them. Piano The piano follows a simple chordal harmony and rhythm, the most complicated coming on the final page but this is simply the chord broken up in a way to give more momentum to this section. If you would like a version where the melody is in the right hand of the piano I also have an arrangement of this as a piano reduction which combines the melody with the right hand of the piano part here with some modifications for playability. Alternatives. I have different versions of this piece which may suit different performers/instrumentalists more. All my versions are: Voice Piano and Guitar - Melody on its own stave with guitar chords above it and a piano accompaniment underneath; Voice Piano and Guitar - As above but the melody is combined with the right hand of the piano part; Guitar Lead Sheet - Melody with guitar chords; Ukulele Lead Sheet - Melody with Ukulele chords.

Lágrima (Teardrop) is a romantic prelude for solo guitar by Spanish guitarist Francisco Tárrega. It is one of the best-known original compositions by Tárrega. It has been published by Ildefonso Alier.Analysis:Lágrima is a very short miniature consisting of only 16 bars. It takes around 2 minutes to perform and its tempo marking is andante. It has an A-B-A structure, section A being in E major and B in E minor, and has been overwhelmingly highlighted by critics because of its simplicity and melancholic atmosphere. Each section has 8 bars. Section A consists of a very simple and predictable melody with quarter notes and dotted half notes, while the accompaniment has eighth notes. Section B turns a little bit less predictable but otherwise still very simple, with eighth notes on the main voice. At the end of section B, section A is repeated to close the work.[ As usual in Tárrega's composition, Lágrima bears some technical difficulties in spite of its simplicity.Composed between late 1891 and early 1892, it is one of Tárrega's most performed pieces. Lágrima has not been included in a definitive catalogue of his works. It has been, however, included in other collections of pieces and has been numbered depending on the position in those collections or in recordings.Musical style:Tárrega composed music in the romantic style of 19th-century European masters. Written originally by Norman Span AKA King of the Radio, Harry Belafonte made the Calypso song ' Matilda' famous and Rt Honourable Dr Louise Bennett Coverley OM OJ MBE known affectionately as Miss Lou went on to adapt the tune as a children's Happy Birthday song for her childrens programmes.I actually played with her as a teenager on her children's programme, Ring Ding, which aired on JBCin the 1070's. I had the honour and pleasure of playing this and other songs with her a few times as Marjorie Whylie, her usual pianist, had broken her wrist (my mothere even looked after her at the University Hospital - small world Kingston !).  I remember her taking me under her wing and I even had a chance to visit her in her lovely home in Gordon Town, St Andrew. She left an indelible mark on me.  Now I have a chance to write,arrange and record my favourite pieces from her repertoire.  I have sung this to children in primary schools in South London.  I have tried to retain but update the calyspo feel in the bass clef and my producer Jaja Wray has enhanced this with his percussion and drum patterns and other fills.
