SKU: A0.893858

Composed by David Kai. Christian,Gospel,Pop. Score. 4 pages. David Kai #5986435. Published by David Kai (A0.893858).

This song was written when heart transplants were fairly new and still in the news. The song depicts the healing ministry of Jesus brought into modern times. Since people like to put music into categories, the style could be roughly described as being country/bluegrass/synth-driven/gospel pop, which might make it pretty unique!

The song was first recorded by the Christian rock group, Whitestone and later by the Sellwoods gospel group. Both versions can be found on Youtube.

The Great Healer words and music by David Kai ©1980
I’ve had a heart transplant with a bit of a difference, it may seem rather odd
No scalpel, no surgeon, no anesthetic, just between me and God
And now a new life beats inside of me, it’s more than mere words can describe
My heart keeps time to the rhythm of the Spirit inside

Well I went fishing for the truth to life, but I opened up a can of worms
False religions and philosophies, misleading me at every turn
Well I soon realized that knowledge is fine, but it’s really just a place to start
‘Cause you can change your mind but it’s God that has to change your heart

Chorus:
Yes, he’s the great healer, in a world of pain and strife, he’s the great healer, and he can mend a broken life
And though your hurts be too much to bear, he can heal your wounds with loving care
And give you a new life that will never die

So if you feel that you’ve lost all your reason to live, good and bad look the same
And you’re walking around more dead than alive, life clotting up in your veins
Just end your confusion, accept a transfusion of love from the heavenly Lord
And to your surprise you’ll find that you have been restored  Chorus:

I’ve had a heart transplant with a bit of a difference...

Composed by Paul Addison. Arranged by Paul Addison. Broadway,Children,Christian,Musical/Show. Score. 55 pages. Paul Addison #726936. Published by Paul Addison (A0.1126233).

Seeds Along the Way is a musical about the life of the biblical King David, written by Paul Addison. David gets to see the major events of his life with the help of his guardian angel, Gabrielle. This manner of storytelling combines elements of It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol, and the old TV show This Is Your Life. Each event in David’s life is told through a song. It was originally written as a VBS (Vacation Bible School) musical. Although everyone in Israel is singing his praises, David questions the purpose of his life. Gabrielle shows him that everyone’s life is important, and that the good things that we do are like seeds planted along the way, which may not sprout and grow until much later. After reviewing his past, David is given a glimpse of the future, and realizes that he is one of many who are preparing for the coming of Jesus Christ. The musical is based on the stories from the Bible, mainly from 1 and 2 Samuel, but also including a Psalm and a geneaology listing from Matthew. David throws in a couple of bad puns as he tries to understand what Gabrielle is trying to tell him. The accompaniment is written for piano, but is appropriate for a praise team or a small dance band. The styles are quite varied, including cha-cha, pop, bossa nova, ballad, dirge, blues, jazz, and waltz. The piano accompaniment could be supplemented by percussion instruments (tambourine, maracas, woodblock, cowbell, etc.), as well as guitar, saxophone, and drums. The songs are at an Easy Intermediate level. The only stage requirements are a small balcony or elevated level with a railing or fence, and a floor area for the chorus. The musical consists of 10 scenes, but the two narrator characters remain on the balcony, and the floor area only needs to be changed in case the chorus members use different costumes and/or props for the different scenes. I hope you enjoy this musical. Address any questions to me at paulhaddison@gmail.com.

By Johnny Flyyn, Laura Marling. By Johnny Flynn. Arranged by SRS Music. Folk,Rock. Score. 8 pages. SRS Music #865508. Published by SRS Music (A0.1273356).

From NPR, 11/1/2010:
Certain songs sound as if they could have been written 100 or more years ago. In some cases, that's even a good thing. Take British singer-songwriter Johnny Flynn's The Water. Long before Flynn, many Celtic troubadours have strummed uncomplicated chords like these and sung about venturing out onto a body of water as a way of cleansing and rediscovery. Lines like So wide is my river even recall coffee-house standards like The Water Is Wide.

The most inventive songwriters take such time-worn tropes and give them mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Built on a steady, unwavering drone of acoustic and electric guitars, mandolin, cello and light percussion, The Water sounds both ancient and modern. The track glistens without sounding fusty. Singing about how the river runs deep / and the larger fish creep, Flynn channels the stolid, dour delivery of many pub-folkies before him, but could just as easily be fronting an especially austere indie band.

This arrangement is written for voice, piano, violin, and acoustic guitar, but can be played in other configurations. A second voice could take the place of violin. The piano part carries the melody so it can be played as an instrumental piece as well.

(This title is also available for solo piano from SRS Music).
