Beach Spring is for piano solo or ensemble. This is a sacred harp hymn tune from 18th century with an original take to create a great funky vibe. The piece includes a distinct and unique introduction, and ostinato development. 2 page arrangement is challenging but not overly so, and well worth the effort to learn. Fun tune to learn and improvise over. It could be used in church for a prelude. Fun Stuff.

Beach Spring is a tune that has many texts associated with it. Come, Ye Sinners, Poor and Needy is my favorite of them. The melody is from The Sacred Harp, and it’s pentatonic. That means that it only uses the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 6th notes of the major scale. In the middle section of my arrangement, I tried an experiment: could I change the overall feel to minor while preserving the original melody notes? You can listen to the results yourself.
