The purpose of this series of sight-singing exercise books is to give choir directors supplemental materials with which to strengthen the reading skills of singers.

These exercises may be used in a variety of ways, starting with unison choir, then two part, then switching parts, etc… to maximize the exercises’ content. No texts are provided, so that the singers may use neutral syllables to focus on tone, or solfege, numbers, or rhythm syllables, depending on the system the teacher uses.

This volume contains the first 10 exercises of Volume 1, and then 10 more exercises that use only longer note values. Since Volume 1 also covers eighth note and sixteenth note rhythms and some compound meters, I decided to provide a volume with only the longer note values and then restructure the collection in the following way: in each series of volumes, A includes only longer note values, B introduces eighths and sixteenths, C introduces compound meter, and D introduces melodic minor.

In general, the exercises give some direction for articulation, dynamics, and tempo.  Though these are optional, the more notation detail the singers pay attention to, the greater their skill will be in reading all the notation on the page.  In some cases, vagueness in these instructions leaves opportunities for singers to decide how to articulate, what tempo might be appropriate, and how loud or soft to sing.

Cradle Song (Two-Part Choir) is a brand new composition that’s perfect for the Christmas season. It was inspired by a text from the great 18th century English hymn writer Isaac Watts. In addition to 700 hymns, Watts wrote Joy to the World and is considered the father of the English hymn. In my piece I used a few of Watts' most attractive lines including, Heavenly blessings without number, gently falling on thy head, and omitted those referring to Horned oxen, cursed sinners and burning flames. Cradle Song incorporates lush modern keyboard harmonies in attractive piano interludes. Pianists may recognize subtle references to Chopin’s famous Prelude in D-flat, the Raindrop Prelude. To me, raindrops falling helped paint an emotional picture of heavenly blessings gently falling on the Christ child. Comfortable vocal ranges and many unison lines make the two-part treble version sing-able by young choirs and even two soloists. Cradle Song is available in multiple formats including SATB, SAB, in addition to this Two-Part Treble for small choirs.

This arrangement expands the familiar hymn Grace Greater than Our Sin into a serene, gently rhythmic 3-minute SOPRANO-ALTO or 2-Part Choir arrangement with piano accompaniment. The vocal parts are pretty straight-forward, though the ALTO part is not exactly like the harmony found in most hymnals – it’s more a mix of the usual ALTO and TENOR parts. The piano accompaniment is different for both verses adding a slightly different sound for the two verses used in this arrangement.  

The vocal ranges are limited and accessible by most singers and could easily be used by other voice combinations (SOPRANO-BARITONE, TENOR-BASS, etc.). The vocal ranges are as follows: SOPRANO – F#4 to C5; ALTO – A3 to G4. Jubilee of Thanks was commissioned for the Grenada National Service of Thanksgiving to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain. Although heavily based on traditional coronation music it is generic enough to be suitable for any service of Thanksgiving or Celebration.
Here is the description found inside the cover of the conductor's score:
In order to gain inspiration and insight into this commission I researched British Coronations past and present. One of the oldest traditions is the use of Handel's oratorio Zadok the Priest. This 144-page composition was written for the coronation of King George II in 1727 and has been used at every coronation since. Thus I began my composition with a Handelian style section, borrowing a phrase from Zadok the Priest and developing it into a fanfare opening. Into this section I interjected the traditional cry of Long live the Queen, but set it in the old church Latin.
The middle section arranges the hymn Now Thank We All Our God, originally written in 1663. This hymn is regarded all across Europe as the official anthem for services of National Thanksgiving. I created different settings for all three verses. Another tradition of British coronations is the use of Psalms 100 and 120. I have taken just one line from each Psalm and woven it into the hymn as a descant or antiphon.
The final section is a Hallelujah Chorus fusing tradition with local flavour by using soca rhythms. In a sly nod to the opening section the very last choral Alleluia is straight from Handel's Messiah.

The choir is in 2 part but much of it unison since it was intended for a massed choir with little rehearsal. Interest comes from the changing styles of each section, 7 key changes, 3 meter changes, and the 2 Trumpets accompanying. A 4 minute easy piece of thanks and celebration.

Alabama Gal, also known as Come Through in a Hurry, is a traditional folk dance in the southern United States. This Virgina Reel style dance originated in Scotland, but It was popular in the US in the mid-1800s and was called a play party or social dance.

Setup: longways set
Verse 1: The lead partners link hands and sashay down the center of the lines and then back up to their original spots.
Verse 2: Partners do a right elbow turn, then a left elbow turn and back to their original spots.
Verse 3: The lead partners cast off and lead their lines to the bottom of the set. The lead partners make an arch for the rest of the partners to go under.
Verse 4: The first set of partners to go under the arch lead the lines back to the top of the set and they get ready to become the new lead partners for the next round.

This a cappella choral arrangement is also available in 3-part, SAB, and SATB.

This Scripture song based on Psalm 57 verses 1 and 7-10 is formatted for a SOPRANO-ALTO or 2-part Choir with piano accompaniment. This 2-part arrangement is in the key of G major with the vocal ranges the same for both parts: the first B below middle C to the first B above middle C (B3 to B4). The limited, moderate vocal range makes this song accessible to just about every combination of voices (SA, AA, AB, TB, etc.). This is a straight-forward arrangement with the SOPRANO (Part 1) carrying the melody throughout and the ALTO (Part 2) adding a non-complex harmony. Duration 3:00.

This Psalm is a prayer written by David while in a cave when he was fleeing from Saul (1 Samuel 22). It is presented here as a song of meditation and praise, drawing the listeners into an atmosphere of prayer and trust in God. The simplicity of the melody allows the vocalists to focus on the words and dynamics as the audience is drawn to the beauty of God's Word expressed musically.
