Includes songs about Spring, of course, and the butterflies, the April showers, the butterflies, the May flowers, the butterflies, the flowers, the butterflies, the white coral bells . . . and did I mention butterflies?

As a part of the Instant Concert Series, the songs are easy to teach and easy to learn, and most can be learned during one class period.

A quick Spring concert can be planned by using any of these songs. Percussion instruments, bells, triangles, slide whistles, and ribbons and scarves were added to help bring Spring to life! Most of the work has been done to make the teacher’s job a little easier. I sincerely hope you – the teacher – enjoy teaching these songs and my wish is that the children to have fun singing about Spring!

Written between November 2007 and August 2009, this set of four motets was written for and dedicated to the Choir of Grace Episcopal Church in Newton, Massachusetts, and its director, Dr. Linda J. Clark. The choir sits facing four stained glass windows, each depicting a scene from Christ’s life: birth, baptism, death, and resurrection. Each motet is a choral meditation on one of these windows. The set is written for a choir of any size and composition that can be evenly divided into two voice parts.
There Stood His Mother (Stabat Mater): Thick dissonances collide and intertwine in this meditation on a mother’s love under a shroud of grief. Duration: 3:17.

This brief composition was inspired by the nuptial Mass of a former student, who had arranged for her 7th-and 8th-grade girl’s chorus to sing for the ceremony. One of the texts read at the wedding was this passage from the Song of Solomon. The piece received its premiere performance by the same girl’s chorus and their now married director in the spring of 2019. The approach is joyful rather than romantic, the vocal parts approachable but interesting thanks to rhythmic interplay and a variety of textures. The piano part adds to the dance-like mood.
