After an appropriate period of mourning, DAVID calls for BATHSHEBA and takes her as his wife and eventually gives birth to a son. DAVID in the meantime still conceals to himself the actions that precipitated URIAH’S death. NATHAN confronts DAVID about a rich man in the town who has stolen a lamb from a poor man. DAVID outraged at the injustice tells NATHAN that the man will die for his unfeeling actions. NATHAN then reveals that he (DAVID) is that man [There Were Two Men – Nathan and the Prophetess’]. Now at last the matter is exposed and David must face his actions. As NATHAN and the prophets leave, one of DAVID’S men comes in and tells him that his son has died. Bach's Goldberg Variations, BWV 988, published in 1741, remain a central part of Baroque keyboard literature, and like many of Bach's works, they stand as a testament to his seemingly effortless mastery of compositional technique. The piece begins with a simple Aria, built upon the ground bass that serves as the harmonic basis for each of the 30 variations that follow, and ends with a repetition of the Aria, having come full-circle. This arrangement by David Haskins of selections from the Goldberg Variations was commissioned by Andrew McCandless, Principal Trumpet of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and was premiered at the Sun Valley Music Festival. Scored for 12 trumpets in two choirs, this arrangement is intended for advanced performers. Of the 30 original variations, 9 have been included here, presenting a variety of styles that are designed to highlight the lyrical and virtuosic capabilities of the trumpet. This arrangement is scored for a double choir of six performers with the following instrumentation; each 6-part choir consisting of: Piccolo Trumpet in B-flat, Trumpet in E-flat, 2 Trumpets in C, 2 Trumpets in B-flat. One C Trumpet doubles on a rotary and one B-flat Trumpet doubles on Flugelhorn.

I have merged the two ideas and created a double choir version singing some of the verses of the original song, divided in a way similar to John Dowlands duet. Versions are also available for SATB-SATB (mixed double choir voice) and for woodwind and brass. The sound sample is my own performance of the ATBarB-ATBarB version. I have also added timpani in the recording, but these are not scored and are optional.

It is fun and catchy, and an extended arrangement has also been performed by our Adult Classes (SATB). VOCAL LAYOUT:The melody, or lead line, is divided amongst the vocal parts to give variety. The B.G (background) parts replicate the instrumental accompaniment of the original track, filling out the arrangement and creating the contemporary texture that is at the heart of Pop A Cappella. The Vocal Percussion (Beatboxing) should be a feature, and they provide the arrangement with much of the groove and vibe it needs.The dynamics give an indication which vocal parts should be strongest at any given moment, but changes may need to be made depending on the number / balance of singers, and the strengths of each vocal section.
