It provides an excellent opportunity to teach the art of syncopation. The accompaniment works as well with organ as piano. The piece is enhances by the flute obligato but can be done without it. This anthem is mainly for Easter day - a declaration of God's great gift of salvation and freedom - but references scripture in the Christmas and Epiphany sections of the lectionary.

Syncopated rhythms and calypso elements in the refrain drive the piece forward while quiet, meditative verses offer contrast. The frequent sixteenth-note passages in the Flute part require a somewhat advanced player. The anthem is suitable for any occasion where praise and thanksgiving are the themes.
