The initial conflict between them points out the two main themes of the story: (1) God sent His Son as the Lamb of God to pay the price for sin; and (2) Even in difficult times, God is still in control. The story ends with them at the manger seeing Christ just after He was born. The drama can be performed by only three people. They can sing the solo parts in the songs, or the children's choir and additional soloists can sing all of the music. Several of the songs have optional two-part harmony. This is an energetic and catchy Christmas anthem, suitable for all ages, but particularly for younger voices singing in school and church choirs. The words are based on Biblical accounts of the shepherds as they are entranced by the news of Christ's birth, brought to them by the heavenly host (Luke 2:13). The verses are in unison and there is a descant part in the choruses. The anthem can be performed with piano accompaniment, and there is also an optional separate trumpet part which adds a glorious sheen and helps to set the atmosphere. Alternatively, a backing track (available separately) can accompany the voices without the need for additional instruments. This is a short score of just the vocal parts.
