Choral Choir,Choral (SA) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1088808 Composed by Robert A. Howard. 21st Century,Christmas,Classical,Folk,Sacred. 10 pages. Robert A. Howard #693020. Published by Robert A. Howard (A0.1088808). This piece is an original arrangement based on the wistful English folk melody 'Barbara Allen'. It takes the form of a 7-verse Epiphany carol, with introduction and coda, setting a poem by Laurie Twinam. Verse 1 gives the option for a single solo voice. Otherwise vocal lines, for two-part (SA) choir or duet, retain the folk tune contour throughout, with fairly simple harmonies and a canon. Around this, the piano accompaniment weaves a set of characterful variations, as a commentary on each differing verse, which is always linked by a 2-bar 'turnaround'. The work explores aspects of both major and minor tonality, as well as modality (with the characteristic flattened seventh), thus working within and around the given folk idiom. This piece is appropriate for virtually any standard and size of SA choir, including school, student, community, church and cathedral choirs, as well as for duet. The accompaniment can be on piano, or for organ if slightly adapted by the player. The solo/unison and 4-part SATB versions of this piece, as well as the solo piano version (Variations on 'Barbara Allen') by the same composer, are also available via Sheet Music Plus. Duration: 4 minutes.Registered with PRS (Performing Rights Society, UK).Composer's website: www.roberthowardmusic.co.uk

Choral Choir (SA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891192 Composed by Medieval Latin, Gustav Holst. Arranged by Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Christmas,Contemporary,Sacred. Octavo. 7 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3103591. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891192). In this Two-Part Treble voicing for developing boys voices and beginning harmony, Boys' Carol is a standard on Lessons and Carols services.Personent hodie is a Christmas carol originally published in the 1582 Finnish song book Piae Cantiones, a volume of 74 Medieval songs with Latin texts.  The text was likely re-written for the Feast of the Holy Innocents (December 28th) when young choristers and their boy bishop traditionally lead worship. This carol is still often associated with Holy Innocents' Day.  It became more prominent in England after being arranged for unison voices and orchestra in 1916 by Gustav Holst (1874–1934), where it is often used as a processional hymn in church and cathedral services.  Holst's version often forms part of the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.  This version is Elizabeth Poston's 1965 Boys' Carol, which translates the first line of the text as Let the boys' cheerful noise/Sing today none but joys.2017 Choral Contest EntryLaurie Betts Hughes, ASCAP | www.LaurieBettsHughes.com

Choral Choir (SA) - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.891216 Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Arranged by Gunnar Madsen, Laurie Betts Hughes. Children,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 14 pages. Dandelion Music Press #3106871. Published by Dandelion Music Press (A0.891216). If you are looking to lighten your concert, to program real music, or a piece with rapid text delivery satisfying to mid-level treble choirs and treble community choirs, bring this hilarious 3 minute piece to your outstanding accompanist-pianist and your developing ensemble.  Debuted for choir during an educational outreach concert for children with families, Mozart's At the Window is also an effective selection or encore for a Mozart concert, or standing on its own.  Piece features lots of vocal doubling and is fully supported by a pianistic reduction-- this piece shines with an amazing accompanist. The choral arranger writes: After getting absolutely sick of the inane music I'd been playing for my young children in the car, I was elated to discover Gunnar Madsen's CD I'm Growing featuring Mozart's At the Window.  The kids were delighted with this funny song about some naughty kid, and my husband and I were delighted with the enormous improvement of musical quality in our vehicle.  It was shortly thereafter that this choral arrangement was born.Gunnar writes: In my first music theory class in college, the teacher and the students were recalling the silly ways they'd been taught to remember classical melodies when they were young.  One of them was for Mozart's 40th symphony (which I'd never heard) which consisted of Now Mozart's at the window - Let him in, Let him in, Let him in.  What an ear-worm!  For 25 years now I've dreamt of expanding that ditty into something more substantial, and now I'm proud to present the finished piece.  I'm really going to get a kick of sending this one to my teacher! Also available in SATB voicingMusic abridged from W.
