In this post-pandemic era, demand for octavos for smaller choirs is on the rise. Here is an arrangement of a familiar hymn by Thomas Ravenscroft set for a smaller mixed ensemble. The Ravenscroft hymn has many verses, some of which are suitable for the Advent/Christmas seasons and some for Lent. This double arrangement has the option for either. Music for both settings is identical. The original a capella setting has here been given a pianistic accompaniment. Choral writing is melody only for the first three verses of each setting and SB (optional SATB) for the final verse. The 2nd and 3rd verses do not have the familiar raised 3rd in the final phrase instead cadencing in the minor mode. This arrangement would provide options for two different seasons of the church year for those choirs with limited voices.
