The third song from the SPACE RACE song cycle, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, July 1969. The other songs are Gagarin (Beyond Blue Sky), Space Race (To Every Question) and Apollo 11 (Homecoming).
Captures the sense of wonder and excitement children felt as they watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon in 1969. Gentle melodic verses and a lively, upbeat chorus. More information at songlibrary.net/Space-Race

The Children of the World (July 1969)Words by Phil Cummings, music by Glyn Lehmann
For children in nineteen sixty nineThere were new games to playTo the children of that far off time There was wonder in that July Day
A rocket flew with fire and flameAcross a wide open sky On TV screens around the worldChildren saw that rocket flyYoung hearts beat a rhythmGreat minds played their part The children of the world held their breath As Armstrong placed a print upon their heartsAt night the children gazed at the starsTheir faces lit by silver moonlightAnd tried to imagine the the viewOf those on that Apollo flight
Kids flew in missions to save the worldCreated games and stories and schemesTheir bikes flew like asteroids Treehouses were rockets in dreams
The children of the world in streets everydaySaw flickering screens in shop window displaysPhotos without colour on newspaper spreadsBooks about space strewn across beds

A true Police classic! This reggae style choral arrangement will have your students engaged from the offset, whilst giving them an opportunity with something alternative. Written for 2 voices with accompanying keyboard/piano, easy to learn harmonic voice passages and an engaging fun piece throughout.

This is a beautiful song by American songwriter Jimmy Webb, who took the title from a 1966 science fiction novel by Robert A Heinlein. The subject is sad, with a feeling of underlying depression, but the melody is sublime. This version, for SA, has some occasional harmonies to colour the mood.

This lovely song starts with essentially someone humming along to a simple accompaniment. The setting is 1800's France. The song is thinking of someone they love. Loosely translated into English, the words are as follows:
je te laisserai des mots / i will write you notes
en-dessous de ta porte / underneath your door
en-dessous de la lune qui chant / underneath the singing moon
tout près de la place où tes pieds passent / near the place where your feet pass by
The piano accompaniment is, in places, dance-like and the song requires careful rhythmic attention.
