Yesusum, Yesusum, is a new rendition of an old Israeli folk tune. The text is taken from the Book of Prophet Isiah. The prophetic verses depict a blooming desert and a blossoming wilderness. The fulfillment of this prophecy has been witnessed with the miraculous development of agricultural life in Israel’s southern desert, the Negev. The current musical arrangement for female (SSAA) choir can be performed a cappella or with piano (or organ) accompaniment.

Yesusum Midbar Vetsiya,

Ve’tagel Arava,

Ve’tifrach Kachavatselet.

Ki Nivke’u Bamidbar Ma’yim

A subsequent upbeat rhythm with hopeful vocal call and echo further paints the landscape of a stranger on horseback, gently traversing the Appalachian mountains; rising to a joyous peak, subsequently dying away as the lonesome traveller draws to their journey's spiritual end. Impressionistic allegorical story-telling at it's best. Highly recommended for beginners.

The author of this text, George Matheson, once said his poem,came like a dayspring from on high. The words stir the soul with their truth and eloquence, couched in archaic 19th-century language. Albert L. Peace's tune ST. MARGARET carries Matheson's text simply and directly. The arrangement was written at the request the Wake Forest University Theatre, who asked for a setting of the hymn for a production of Thornton Wilder's well-known play Our Town, specifically for the graveyard scene. The piano accompaniment conjures up the tolling of a bell that between stanzas breaks forth between stanzas into poignant melody as the voices in monotonerest in God's everlasting love.
