Originally commissioned by cellist Marty Steinberg as an encore for a performance with clarinetist Mitch Sturman at a concert in Philadelphia at Congregation Beth 'El given on November 4, 2018, the piece has been re-scored for clarinet and bassoon. The three tunes are Long live the nigun, Bublitschki, and Hopke
In Long live the nigun (nigun meaning tune), the melody is evenly split between clarinet and bassoon.
The popular Bublitschki (bagels) is presented in a quasi canonic form, each restatement being slightly varied.
Hopke (literally hop) is a fast dance culturally derived from the hopak. The bassoon carries the entire melody with clarinet accompaniment.
