The upper 3 strings are ADG, and low string a full octave below the first G -- i.e. doubling it . That low *G gives a robust, full-throated sound, nicely balanced with the rest of the instrument. Holds true for my bass and my 2 cellos (4/4 tonewood cello and a 3/4 road cello)  Widens the palette for improv in jamming with folk, bluegrass, contradance band.

Key is Gma, Either voice might be taken by a wind instrument having a low G.

Schindlöcker was one of the most important exponents of cello playing on the history of music, who continued the tradition of his well known predecessor Anton Kraft.

Schindlöcker, who was much admired by Ludwig van Beethoven, cultivated and promoted chamber music playing in Vienna. This is reflected in his own compositions as well as the highly demanding cello parts in the works of the great composers of the Vienna school in the early 19th century.
