High Voice,Vocal Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.916017 Composed by William Kersten. 20th Century,Contemporary. 6 pages. William Kersten #3007533. Published by William Kersten (A0.916017). Individual song from Five Songs for Soprano - Song-Cycle by William Kersten in two versions: wide and normal vocal range Poem by Anne Bronte (1820-1849) My soul is awakened, my spirit is soaringAnd carried aloft on the wings of the breeze,For above and around me the wild wind is roaringArousing to rapture the earth and the seas. The long withered grass in the sunshine is glancing,The bare trees are tossing their branches on high,The dead leaves beneath them are merrily dancingThe white clouds are scudding across the blue sky.I wish I could see how the ocean is lashingThe foam of its billows to whirlwinds of spray,I wish I could see how its proud waves are dashing,And hear the wild roar of their thunder today.
"My soul is awakened..."

High Voice,Vocal Solo - Digital Download SKU: A0.916016 Composed by William Kersten. 20th Century,Contemporary. 6 pages. William Kersten #3007529. Published by William Kersten (A0.916016). Individual song from Five Songs for Soprano - Song-Cycle by William Kersten Poem by Christina Rossetti Come to me in the silence of the night;Come in the speaking silence of a dream;Come with soft rounded cheeks and eyes as brightAs sunlight on a stream;Come back in tears,Oh memory, hope, love of finished years.Oh dream how sweet, too sweet, too bitter sweet,Whose wakening should have been in Paradise,Where souls brimfull of love abide and meet;Where thirsting longing eyesWatch the slow doorThat opening, letting in, lets out no more.Yet come to me in dreams, that I may liveMy very life again though cold in death.Come back to me in dreams, that I may givePulse for pulse, breath for breath:Speak low, lean low,As long ago, my love, how long ago.

High voice and piano - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.8318-4E Composed by Gwyneth W. Walker. Secular, 21st century. 9 pages. E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital #8318-4E. Published by E. C. Schirmer Music Company - Digital (MQ.8318-4E). The five letters which provide the lyrics for the songs (adapted by the composer) were selected for their range of topics and sentiments. Some portray the wildlife in the mountains (“Glacier Birds...â€). Others extol the beauty of the Sierra (“Mountain Glory,†“Yosemite Fallsâ€). One expresses the whimsical/temperamental personality of the author (“Ice!â€). And the final letter (“Sequoiaâ€) speaks reverently of the great trees, in a language both naturalistic and sacred. They are the “greatest light in the woods, the greatest light in the world.†The musical settings, especially in the piano accompaniment, are quite programmatic. Glacier birds scamper up and down the keyboard in tone clusters. “Icy†glissandi float off. The great trees take root in large, block chords, and waterfalls cascade down in scales. There is personality in the letters. The bond between John Muir and Mrs. Carr (whom he addresses formally) is one of great kinship- a blending of the souls, a “spiritual romance.†As he marvels at the beauty of the wilderness, he writes ardently, “I wish that you could see this...†When he learns that Mrs. Carr, a botanist (whose plants suffer from the frost), dislikes ice, he chides her, and creates a “mock argument†over the value of glacial ice.The songs begin with an ascent into the mountains. They close with the return to the coast, to the magnificent Sequoia trees, where John Muir camps for the night, in the company of a squirrel. Charmingly, he writes “therefore, my Carr, goodnight.â€.
