It turns out that the elixir was fake (just red wine), but it caused the two persons to realize that their love had always been real. My arrangement maintains this joyful, almost comedic, side of love's feelings. Following Ludovic's earlier piano arrangement I treat just three of the opera's many themes. I have altered and enriched some of the simplistic classical chord progressions. There are now numerous markings throughout, particularly in articulation. Each part requires accurate rhythms, and each part has some virtuosic extended patterned runs. The range for each instrument is wide-2 octaves plus a third. This piece is a fun way to show your technical skills in concert or audition/competition. Or useful anyplace that you want joyful melodrama (Donizetti's own description). Also works well for pre-wedding music if you prefer the humorous side of true love instead of the sappy stuff.

Stand by Me was originally released by the co-writer Ben E King in 1960 and is the sixth highest royalty earning song of all time.  However, King never intended to record the song himself. The story goes he had some studio time left over after a session and the producer asked him if he had any other songs they could put on tape. When King sat at the piano and performed Stand by Me, the producer recognised a huge hit in the making. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola. Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The overall performance time is around three minutes.  Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with ensemble skills and expressive playing. There are some complex syncopated rhythms in the melody part and the challenge will be to tie these expressively to the repeating bass pattern which is present throughout.
