Odessa Bulgar is a Jewish Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

For many traditional Klezmer tunes, the first clues of their existence comes from bands making discs at the dawn of the recording era. In this case, Odessa Bulgar first appeared in a 1919 recording by Abe Schwartzā€™s Orchestra. Schwartz was born in Romania and emigrated to the USA around 1900, thereafter enjoying a long career in the music industry. Odessa Bulgar is a happy piece designed for dancing at celebrations.

Odessa Bulgar is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in three sections; overall the tune is played twice with a coda and with constant variations in the accompaniment. Odessa Bulgar is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Odessa Bulgar is perfect for weddings, celebrations and concert performances, both formal and informal. Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.

Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal. Ale Brider is a Yiddish Folk song, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

The lyrics were written by Morris Winchevsky, a Lithuanian writer who became a prominent socialist/communist in early twentieth century London and New York. The title Ale Brider, (We Are All Brothers), reflected his socialist beliefs.

Ale Brider is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The melody is in two sections and is played three times with constant variations in the accompaniment. Composed by David McKeown. Holiday,Jewish,Love,Wedding,World. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6235757. Published by David McKeown (A0.590772).

אַהֲבÖøה, (Ahava, Hebrew for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the slow formal dances used in traditional Jewish weddings in Israel and elsewhere. Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe but has since spread around the world, its bitter sweet melodies and instruments imitating the human voice perfectly reflecting the complex emotion of love.

If you play to an intermediate standard and upwards, then you and your audience will enjoy this piece. The melody is always expressive and following the articulation in the score will help convey the style. אַהֲבÖøה has a performance time of around three and a half minutes.
