×�ַהֲבָה, (Ahava, Hebrew for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the slow formal dances used in traditional Jewish weddings in Israel and elsewhere. Klezmer music originated in Eastern Europe but has since spread around the world, its bitter sweet melodies and instruments imitating the human voice perfectly reflecting the complex emotion of love.

æ„›(Ai, Japanese for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the Enka music of post-war Japan. As reconstruction gathered pace, the popular music of the day combined traditional Japanese scales, rhythms and themes with all sorts of contemporary Western ballad styles. Singers like Misori Hibari and Keiko Fuji became huge cultural icons in Japan and helped lay the foundations for today’s confident and vibrant Japanese music scene. æ„›(Ai) aims to capture the spirit of this emotionally charged music.

æ„›(Ai) is written for players at an intermediate standard and upwards. This duet is inspired by the music of Bollywood Cinema. The film industry has been hugely important in India since the early days of Independence and music has been centre-stage in most productions. The music has always been a hybrid between traditional Indian forms and Western popular music and is renowned for its spectacular dance set-pieces.  à¤ªà¥�यार aims to capture the rhythm and spirit of Bollywood.

पà¥�यार is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The melody alternates between vocal and instrumental interludes with Bhangra style rhythms underlying throughout. Hava Nagila is a Hebrew Folk tune, often performed by Klezmer musicians. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

Hava Nagila was originally a Nigun melody thought to have originated in the Ukraine. In 1918 a professor and musicologist at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Abraham Zevi Idelsohn, set the tune to words adapted from Psalm 118. Hava Nagila was first performed at celebrations at the end of the Great War and quickly spread throughout the Jewish diaspora. In the fifties and sixties, performances by singers as diverse as Harry Belafonte and Bob Dylan popularised the song far beyond its original Jewish audience. Hava Nagila remains one of the best-known and loved Klezmer standards today, traditionally performed at Jewish celebrations.

Hava Nagila is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. After a steady beginning, the melody gradually increases in tempo, with constant variations in the accompaniment. Hava Nagila is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around two and a half minutes, this version of Hava Nagila is perfect for celebrations, weddings and concert performances, both formal and informal.
