SKU: A0.592501

Composed by Jule Styne. Arranged by David McKeown. Contemporary. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6366117. Published by David McKeown (A0.592501).

It’s Been a Long Long Time is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

It’s Been a Long Long Time is best known to modern audiences as the song at the end Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers, after seventy yearsfinally gets to dance with Peggy Carter. The song of course, is much older. Two versions of It’s Been a Long Long Time topped the charts in late 1945, and as US servicemen returned from Europe and the Pacific, it perfectly caught the mood of the times. One version was by Bing Crosby, and the other by the Harry James Orchestra featuring Kitty Kallen on vocals. It is the latter version that is heard in Endgame and the one that forms the basis of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate standard will find It’s Been a Long Long Time ideal for formal and informal concert performances. with both parts enjoying plenty of melodic interest. The overall performance time is just over two and a half minutes.

Composed by Wallis Willis. Arranged by David McKeown. Christian,Gospel,Praise & Worship,Sacred,Spiritual. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #6141203. Published by David McKeown (A0.590075).

Steal Away to Jesus is an American nineteenth century spiritual. This version is arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola.

The words and music of Steal Away to Jesus are credited to Wallis Willis, a Native American freedman from Oklahoma. A local minister transcribed the song and within a few years it became a firm gospel favourite. The words have a meaning beyond the spiritual, with hidden references to the Underground Railway of the time that helped escaped slaves cross to Canada. In more recent times Steal Away to Jesus was arranged by Michael Tippett in 1944 and recorded famously by Mahalia Jackson and Nat King Cole.

Steal Away to Jesus is simply arranged in a key and range best suited to the instruments. The song is played several times as a ballad, with ever changing accompaniment. Click the link above to listen to a full Youtube performance of the Clarinet version of this duet.

Steal Away to Jesus is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above. With a performance time of around three and a half minutes, this version of Steal Away to Jesus is perfect for worship and concert performances, both formal and informal.

SKU: A0.587529

Composed by Jeremiah Clarke. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Concert,Instructional,Standards,Wedding. Score and parts. 3 pages. David McKeown #4355057. Published by David McKeown (A0.587529).

The Prince of Denmark’s March is better known nowadays as the Trumpet Voluntary and is often used in wedding ceremonies. It was in fact written for organ, with the melody played on thetrumpet stop.  Written around 1700, for many years this piece was mistakenly attributed to Henry Purcell. Only recently has it been established that the composer was Jeremiah Clarke, organist at St Paul’s Cathedral. It is somewhat ironic that this composer of a wedding mainstay was himself a victim of unrequited love. He consequently shot himself in the cathedral graveyard.

This full version is arranged as a duet for Flute and Viola and the performance time is around two and a half minutes. Of course, performers, especially at weddings, may wish to abridge and shorten the arrangement. This is easily done as the different sections are self-contained and the repeat may be ignored. The complete performance on youtube and the short audio sample are from the Clarinet Duet version of this arrangement.

Musicians at an intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances, with both parts enjoying melodic interest.

Teachers will enjoy using this arrangement as a fun way to help with strict time, full tone and dynamics.

Composed by David McKeown. African,Folk,Holiday,Love,Spiritual,World. Score and parts. 5 pages. David McKeown #6246195. Published by David McKeown (A0.590812).

حب (Hubb, Arabic for Love), is a beautiful original composition by David McKeown, arranged as a duet for one Flute and one Viola, and is one of series of pieces celebrating Love in different languages around the world.

This duet is inspired by the Andalusi music of the Maghreb. The music is thought to have originated in Muslim Spain a thousand years ago and spread across North Africa in the following centuries. The music is set to the ancient Muwasha poetry, often with secular themes such as love. Andalusi music remains popular today, especially in Morocco, and has influenced many other forms of Arab music. حب aims to capture the melody and spirit of this timeless music.

حب is written for players at an advanced intermediate standard and upwards. The preamble is in free time, like an improvisation, followed by the melody and instrumental interludes in a typical ten beat cycle. ØØ¨ has a performance time of around three minutes. Click on the link above to listen to a full YouTube performance of ØØ¨ played on Clarinet.

Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven. Arranged by David McKeown. Baroque,Classical,Concert,Instructional,Standards. Score and parts. 4 pages. David McKeown #4353971. Published by David McKeown (A0.587497).

Fur Elise is the popular name given to Bagatelle no.25 written by Ludwig van Beethoven. The piece was never published in Beethoven's lifetime and only came to light forty years after his death. Despite much debate, no-one has been able to establish who the Elise of the dedication actually was.

This arrangement transcribes the piano score as a Duet for Flute and Viola.

Musicians at an advanced intermediate level and above will find this ideal for formal and informal performances. The rhythms are straightforward, and there is plenty of scope for expressive, lyrical playing with subtle tempo changes. The overall performance time is around three minutes.

Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is a fun and original duet written by David McKeown for one Flute and one Viola.

Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is one in a series of ten Halloween-themed duets each presenting a portrait of a different Halloween character. All ten can be bought together in one collection by searching for 10 Spooky Halloween Duets for Flute and Viola.

Back in Ancient Egypt, Mimi always turned heads with her blonde hair and fashion sense. She made her fortune in a pyramid selling scheme and acquired Joseph’s Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat at a charity auction. When she choked on a locust her friends tore up the coat and used it in the mummification process instead of the usual white bandages. So three thousand years later Mimi still dresses in style.

Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is suitable for players at an intermediate level and above, with the accessible keys and range balanced by some fast passages. With a playing-time of around four minutes, Mimi the Multicoloured Mummy is a perfect upbeat addition to any performance program, formal or informal.
